It has been a while since I last posted.  A new
granddaughter, a newer son, and a year long project at
work have kept me from bike and boat.  The project is
done and I have settled into middle age parenthood....
I am readying my 82 Vision for some fall riding.  In
addition to a general tune up, I am lining the tank and
getting the tank and fairing painted.

I need some help....a while back I picked up a Yamaha
"shark" type fairing for my 82 Vision.  It had no windshied
and I need to find a source for one....anyone know of a
place to get one?  I am sure this has been covered on
past posts but I cant seem to pull up any of the older
posts via search.  Any help on this would be greatly
appreciated.

I seem to recall someone saying Rifle has a shield for it, or can make one.. try a search here or Google "Rifle Fairings" to see if you can pull up a website/phone #

These guys make shields for that fairing in several colors and heights:

I have used them and they're well formed and match the lines perfectly.

Dan...

I am guessing it's the one just marked "Yamaha Accessory"? It does not look like an exact match, but looks close. Do you have to drill the holesfor mounting it?

Thanks for the info......Humber...thanks for the offer...if
I can't find anything local I will take you up on your offer.
I have been in contact with Leif of Gustafsson Plastics.
They have a couple of windshields on their website for the
83 fairing and a couple that may fit the 82 sports fairing.
I have sent them pictures of mine to confirm this.  As I
understand it, they do NOT predrill the shields...they will
sell you a plexiglass drill bit.  I have drilled plastic...but
never a piece that cost a hundred dollars....you can bet
I'll be real careful.

PS:  Anyone got a mounting diagram for this sports
fairing....I got the hardware and can probably figure
it out, but a diagram would make it easy....thanks.

Don't forget, the 750 Seca had a similar Fairing with the same windshield. :)

haven't got that, but here is the instruction sheet for the Vetter "Sting" fairing for the Vision, thought you all might find it interesting.  (shown on a Vision, btw)

Hi Helmsman -

I've got the instructions for the Yamaha Shark fairing someplace but it's really easy.  The two L brackets mount to the rear holes in the headlight bracket (where the turn signals originally go).  The larger bracket attaches at the lower fork pinch bolts.  You'll have to relocate the turn signals to the lower bracket & extend the wiring.

Two windshield mounting screws are used to attach it to the upper brackets (through windshield, fairing body & rubber washer - then threaded into bracket).  Two bolts attach the fairing body to the lower bracket with rubber washers between the bracket & fairing body and 2 more between the bolt head &the fairing (also 2 metal washers at this point).

Be very careful when attaching the windshield to the fairing.  Overrtightening will cause the windshield to crack (I found out the hard way - D'oh) - it's been that way for the last 22 years and a couple more cracks from the mounting holes have developed over time but haven't caused any real structural failure.

Since I'm transporting the V in my truck with the fairing off, it will be easy to send you some photos when I get back from California in about a week.  I'll also do a major search & destroy to find the actual instructions - I know they're here someplace.  I've looked a couple times recently but haven't found them in the usual places.  Must be in a box of misc. papers around here somewhere.  No guarantees on finding them.

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

Mike....got a email for Leif of Gustafsson Plastics
indicating that the glass for this fairing is listed under
Seca 750....must be the same one.  One more email
to him to confirm the right one and Ill place a order
first of the week. Thanks for the info on mounting...H20,
pics would be much appreciated...Ill take a look at
your instructions and the hardware...might be enough.

I am getting the tank lined and going to get it repainted
along with the fairing....Ill post a pic on the gallery
when it comes back...
