Does size matter?

The xz550 I'm working on had a size 12 battery in it instead of a 14 that's called for. The stator connector was melted and fused together as described in Lucky's notes.  I'm having trouble getting my brain to decide if the smaller battery made the charging system work harder or easier.  The parts bike had a 14 and the stator plug looked like new. (Although the bike had far fewer miles on it)

I'll be buying a gel battery for the Vision when it gets roadworthy. Is the 14 the best option?

I would go with the standard size.  Those connectors melt because they have different metals, and any corrosion causes a build up of resistance and thus heat.  I replaced mine once with a standard replacement, and then later with a different connector that had the same metal for the connectors.  Since then, I haven't had a problem.

On batteries, I like my AGM battery, it works well.
