For your interest the New Zealand motor vehicle register is now available to the public...
There are:
27 XZ550s (all 16R models except 1 25R). 7 in the South Island
2 black, 1 green, 2 grey, 20 red, 1 silver, 1 white
Lowest serial number is 16R-000137
Highest serial number is 16R-001361
67 XZ400s. 26 in the South Island
25 black, 14 blue, 1 orange, 15 red, 1 silver, 11 white
Both are rarer than Vincents, of which there are 88
Do we have population/registry info from anywhere else? I was wondering what the distribution looks like worldwide.
I've checked UK stats. Unfortunately they are in a sorry state. There are no XZ550s listed, but thousands of Yamahas with model not recorded.
Thanks for the info. Looks like I own the highest serial number 16R. 001361 The steering head compliance plate is dated June "82.
Fascinating info. Found the website, but you must have done some tricky stuff to get all the records in a spreadsheet and then sort them. I could only open the first 1.5M but I did find that there was at least one Nimbus in NZ!
lolol that's a great bit of info.
I wonder what the stats are in the West Island (Australialand).
Hmmm, which would you rather have?

Hmmm, which would you rather have?
A restored XZ for $4000 or a restored Vincent for $195,800?
I'll take the vision and pay off some of my mortgage
I'd rather own the Vincent BUT I do reckon the XZ is probably a much sweeter bike to actually ride.
Too bad a Vision is not worth a simulator amount.
lol Might not be worth a similar amount, but it's a stimulating mount!
