So.... I've had an issue that is seeming to get worse. Whenever I give it throttle or whenever the bike needs torque, the headlight dims to virtually out and it feels like the bike is missing. My guess is either the stator or the regulator is starting to go bad. Unfortunately, I don't have an installed voltmeter so I can't verify.

Am I on the right track?

To elimenate the charging system as being the source of your problems, put a known good, fully charged battery in the bike and see if the drivability issues remain.  If they do, the problem is not the charging system.  The charging system may still be faulty, but it won't be the cause of your complaints.

K  mine felt boggy like this too.  Never looked at the headlight as i never trusted it to ride at night.  Plugs and wires did the trick for me!
