Title: Pre-Winter Ride
Post by: Rikugun on November 30, 2014, 07:08:04 PM
Went to breakfast at the local bike friendly diner this morning and then for a ride. Sad to see so many of the regulars had driven rather than rode but there were a few of us. Temps were in the mid 40's and remnants of last weeks dusting of snow still hanging around. Oh well, at least the roads were mostly dry...

Looks lovely. But pre-winter? Wow that's about a normal winter here, maybe a few degrees colder and only occasional snow. Good on you for braving the conditions, and give those car driving softies a rev up!

Repeated yesterday with the diner and a ride. Mid week deluge washed the snow away but the temps were a bit colder than last Sunday. Visited the Spruce Run reservoir (state's 3rd largest) and it's only at ~50% capacity. All the boat ramps are above water line and the shallow end is now a mud flat. Unfortunately left my camera at home but strange to see it so low.

Had a look on google and looks like a nice place. Judging by most images you can catch a pretty decent sized fish there. One of my friends has a rod holder (not his wife, no he's ruined his chances there) so he can head to the lakes or rivers on his bike.

Yup, pretty good fishing although Round Valley reservoir to the east is the one known for it's fishing. Slightly larger in area and substantially deeper at 180 feet, it's 55 billion gallon capacity dwarfs Spruce Run. From Google Earth you can see a dramatic color difference hinting at it's depth and water quality.
