Title: Looking for a complete bike
Post by: mshowe on July 01, 2019, 01:05:58 PM
A guy just moved from CA to my town in Iowa.  He loves my 1983 XZ550Rk vision and would like to put his hands on one.  Anyone know of a complete bike for sale?  It could "have issues".

He would probably take a '82 as well.

There was a recent thread where a fellow was offering two running XZ550 bikes and a bunch of parts and spares for what seemed to me a very reasonable sum.  Every now and then someone offers a stash of parts and a Vision or two.

Yes, I saw that.  I believe they are gone.  I'll look again and see if I can find that but pretty sure he said they were gone.  Thanks.

5080 miles! Jeez it's brand bloody new.
If I didn't live in the antipodes I'd be all over this.  What would it cost to send across the Pacific do you think?

You'd have to look into that from an independent contractor I'm sure. I wouldn't even know where to begin with shipping it that far. Sorry

There are plenty of shipping companies that move small items based on spare space in their containers.

My concern would be with preserving the condition. If the bike was broken down into a carton like it originally shipped it would be simple.

I realize this is a bit early in the process but make sure there is no detectable residue of fuel anywhere.  Not in the tank or carbs.  If it leaks oil then totally drain the engine.  Carriers have no patience with things that might cause a fire or otherwise leave a mess in their equipment.

I have been thinking ever since I saw this post. I am a long way from Iowa but I could let mine go for the right price. Make me an offer?

Hi, My name is Les. I have 2 1983 xz550's I am putting up for sale. One is a "runner", the other is a parts bike. I purchased them to be my retirement project, but I developed serious medical issues. I know my riding days are over. The carbs were removed from the "runner" for a rebuild. They were never rebuilt. Carbs are disassembled. I have some new Yamaha Parts and a new Athena SPA (Italy) Motor Gasket set, never opened. The "runner' bike has a clear title. No title for the parts bike. There is 1 full shroud and 1 sports shroud. Some cracks in the fiberglass. The parts bike is missing both carbs, front wheel rotor, and some small parts. I'm asking $1000.00 for both, buyer arranges for pickup. I will be posting the sale on Craig's List Chacago in a few days. I can be E-mailed @ lester5873@comcast.net. I have pix of both bikes.
