Title: DUH question
Post by: 4runnerpilot on March 09, 2003, 01:24:35 PM
I have read at length the tips on carb tuning and setup. Here is my totally dunb question. Which screw are which? Pilot, idle air, etc...? I would love to get my bike running etter, and I can't seem to find my manual, so if someone could explain or show me which screws to adjust and how much, I would love it!
Thanks
Brian (dumb)

There are no bumb questions, it's ok.
On the 82 the pilot air screws are on the left side of the carb. just above the intake boot. it is inline with the throttle rod that connects to the sync rod.  From the factory there are aluminum plugs covering them.  it is possable that they have never been removed.  if so, just drill a small pilot hole in the center 1/4 inch deep, then screw in a sheetrock screw and yank the screw & plug out with pliers. you don't need to replace the plug later.

on the 83's the pilot screws are on the right side of carbs, just below the plate that holds the fuel pump in place.

on both years, the idle adjustment is the big thumb screw on the right side of the rear carb.

thanks for the reply! Does anyone have a picture of this? Before I start drilling holes in my carbs I want to make really sure of what I am doing.
Thanks!
Brian
