Title: Source of Vision Knock found!
Post by: bmeyer6472 on May 12, 2005, 04:41:35 PM
I posted here some time ago regarding a low rpm knock in my Vision, which had me baffled as I had already done the starter clutch fix. I received many helpful suggestions, but it has taken me until today to actually take it apart and discover the cause. As it turned out, it was the balancer drive gear nut that had come loose. This is the large 46mm nut behind the flywheel, and it was loose enough that I was able to wiggle it with my fingers! The driven gear nut was still tight, but I removed both it and the drive gear nut so I could locktite both of them. Per Lucky's suggestion, I cleaned the threads with brake cleaning fluid before applying the locktite, and then bent all the lock tabs over. My back gave out before I was able to finish the job, but tomorrow will see it done.
Thanks to all who gave their suggestions - it will be great to have the Vision running again with no knock!!  ;D I wish I had been smart enough to check for this the last time I had it apart! ::)
