Title: Selling my 82 and 83 Visions
Post by: GA_Wolf on March 24, 2006, 11:27:39 AM
Hey all, it's been a while since I've checked in..hope all of you are well and keeping the shiney side up.

I'm trying to sell my two V's.  One is and 82 and the other is an 83.  Both bikes ran last year.  The 82 ran until I almost had the carbs set just right, then made one adjustment and threw them out of whack.  I had just replaced the brake pads and added a windscreen.  Bike is a real runner for someone who has the time to clean and adjust the carbs.  Needs a battery.  The 83 has full stock body work, plus hard sidebags and trunk.  She ran last year and just needs a new battery and some fresh gas.  Plan on getting her up and running this weekend.  Also have tons of extra parts.

I live just NE of Atlanta GA and asking $1000 for both bikes and all the spare parts.  First with the cash and willing to come get them walks away with two great bikes.

Why am I selling, well the 82, even with a thinner saddle is just a hair too tall for the wife to be comfortable on (as a new rider).  And though I love my V and don't mind wrenching on her, I'm working on a project car and just don't have the time to give her the care and attention she needs.

I do have pics so email me if you are interested.

 :o :o :o

GA_Wolf, I wish at least one of them was running right now so that you could join us at Deal's Gap last week in April. You could have stopped by and rode up with crakerkorean. He lives not far from you in Winder, Ga. It's a relitively short ride for you to get to the gap. Have you ever been? What's the possibility you can get one running to try out the dragon?

Well selfishly I would like to see both or at least one go to someone in my area (Raleigh). I sent an email to my nephew to see if he was interested. He mentioned he liked my bike when he was here last. He lives in Charlotte so he's closer to you than I am.

Well, I hope to get the 83 back running this weekend.? Hoping that draining the bowls, replacing the filter and dumping the old fuel in the tank and putting in new gas and a can of Berryman's will get her running. Haven't been to the GAP, want to make the run sometime.? May be up for it by the end of April.? Have to see what fundage is like.? With the wife going to school full-time, kind of cuts into my play money!

The 82 basically needs a new battery and a good carb cleaning.? It ran last summer..Had a stumble I was trying to adjust out...was trying to avoid rebuilding the carbs.? Almost had it..then I adjusted something too far and messed it all up.? Then I swiped it's battery for the 83...then since the wife wasn't riding it, I took the lower seat and put it on the 83 too.? Put the 83 seat on the 82, cause it had a small tear.

I also have soft saddle bags to go with the 82 and spare swingarm and 82 rear wheel and shaft/final gear assembly.? Also another seat pan, some turnsignals, and other misc parts...also the factory and Haynes manuals.

Give the 83 a kick and see if you can get it running. Check out the thread called
"April Party Crash" under off topic. We'll be staying at the kickstand camp ground with a bunch of warrior riders. The party crash is actually because we are there the same time the warrior guys are. They found my post and was really interested in having us in their party. So far there are possibly 4 or more of us going to meet there. Even if you can't make an overnight let me know what day and time and we'll meet you somewhere. We're doing this as cheap as can be done. I don't think any of us are rich. We would love to have you along for the ride!? :)

Gome on Wolf....
Hold off selling until you make the trip to the Gap with us.  We are camping, $15 a night. All you would need is gas money and maybe money for a Burger and a Bagel. Or if you ride up on Sunday, we will be eating DaveTN's food at his house. Come on... The more the merrier.

Don't bring too many PS2. There's not going to be as many Miatas clogging up or hogging the road this time.

Decided to drop my asking price.....$800 gets both bikes, manuals and all my spare parts including the installed hardbags and trunk on the 83 and the soft bags and windscreen for the 82.  Like I said, both bikes ran strong last year, but both now need a good carb cleaning and adjustment and batteries.

That's an insanely amazing price... With all of that you should easily be able to make $1000 off it.

I want hard bags...

Got to pay for that warranty to let others work on your car somehow!? ?:D

I actually enjoy working on vehicles & hate the depreciation hit I'd take on a new car or truck.? Rather let someone else lose all that money & I don't have to pay interest on a depriciating asset.

Just my $0.02

I dont mine it either but when your dealing with a $1500 dollar car with already $1000 additional into it and it needing another $400 and a weekends worth of work , and on top of that being in school and not having any time for anything.

Buying a car with a warrenty is worth it for me. ;D

Good points!  Time is always an equalizer.  However, think of putting just a portion of your car payment into a "fix-up" fund each month & you would be amazed at what you can do with an older vehicle.  Kind of like our Visions!  ;D   Then again, there comes a point where you're throwing good money after bad.  Just depends on the car's overall condition.  When mine start nickel & diming me to death is when I know it's time to change.

Thats what happened. After the initial 1000 it got by with just some basic tinkering for 6 months. But then anohter 400 wold have not ben worth it.

But like you said I have time for the V. As soon as I refoam a pair of speakers itl be time to put the mac exhause I got on the V and a rebuild of the carbs.

Sorry to hijack. Im done LOL

I was not planning on getting another Vision but I think this deal might be a good one for me. I am just finishing up on an '82 and my wife is taking a motorcycle driving course this weekend. I'll talk it over with her and I'll get back with you hopefully later today.

Congrats Tailwheel!

I hope you will be able to give these two V's a fine home and have many good miles sharing the fun with wifey!
