09/28/04...HEY GUYS..... only 3 days left to get in on this...
If you are coming please let Ron or me know..
You don't want to miss out now do you?
GlennW

On the heels of our first successful group ride, the California Riders of Vision would like to invite all V riders to attend our 1st annual fall rally. Another great central California location has been selected based of it's location, the beautiful weather in fall, and most important: outstanding riding in the area.
Ron McCoy has some great accommodations lined up a very reasonable prices. ?;D

 ??? When: October 2-3
??? Where: Johnsondale California. (about 15 miles north of Lake Isabella)
Deadline for arranged accommodations is September 1st.
We will post more on the rooms as we go along.
If you prefer to camp there a some campgrounds (on the Kern River) within 2-3 miles.
If you miss the deadline you can arrange a room in Kernville about 10 miles away.

We had 5 V's last time. It was a good time had by all.
Where were YOU? ????
I have been on most of the roads here and I can tell this is some of the finest riding you will ever do. ;D

So... don't miss this chance. You have plenty of time to prep the V for this one. ?;)

We will need to know how many people will be attending by the end of August in order to make reservations.  We are
looking to reserve multiple cabins if enough of us will be attending.  What Glenn says about the riding in the area is
absolutely correct.

Saturday and Sunday. Some will show up Friday afternoon I'm sure. I may take out of Santa Barbara about noon Friday, It takes me 4 hours to ride the backroads.
From LA (depending on what part of LA) it's about 2-3 hours
to Johnsondale.

Could we get a tentative list going on this. I would expect the folks from the last ride will try to make it.
My thinking is it will spur some more V riders in California out of the woodwork.
Confirmed:
me
Ron McCoy
.....the other guys from the last ride:
Greg Branche
Brian  Moffett
Don Minor
Lets get up to a dozen and we can be considered a "gang of V twin thugs invading the area"
LOL

We are getting down to the short strokes on reserving rooms as a group at very reasonable rates.
When I last e-mailed Ron we had until the end of August.
This is going to be a great ride, lets hear from those V riders who are interested... ::)

Ron McCoy is having trouble posting on the site so I am posting the following for him:

OK California Riders of Vision, its nearly time for our Autumn
? ?Rally. My wife and I have a time-share at Johnsondale which ?is about 20 miles upriver from Kernville, Ca. Johnsondale is an ?old sawmill town at 4700 ft. elevation in the Sierras. We can ? reserve a cabin for up to 20 people for the weekend. Guests are ? $ 10 per day and must be included in the reservation. The cabins ?are a little rustic but clean and have modern plumbing and ?conveniences. The only inconvenience is that there is only one ?restroom per cabin so we will have to share. This is usually not ?a problem and there are other restrooms and showers available.
? ?There is an olympic size swimming pool, a recreation hall for kids ?and one for adults, a dance hall and a lake so there will be ? entertainment for those who don't go riding. Guest reservations ?have to be paid for even if they're not used so please come if you ?make one. E-mail me at ron.mccoy@dopaco.com if you plan to stay with us.
? ?Accomodations are available at Kernville or Wofford Heights for those who prefer their privacy, or just want their own restroom. Kernville ?is the source for gasoline and restaurants in the area so we will be ?passing through there during the weekend and coordination with those who wish to stay there should not be a problem.
? ?The riding and the scenery in the area are breathtaking with many more oustanding motorcycle roads than we will be able to ride in one weekend.

Ron Mc Coy

I just want to add you do not want to miss this ride!!!!!
Deadline to reserve the rooms is ?8/31 !!!!

Howdy -

I know this is a "California" event but could a Colorado V tag along? ?I have some tentative plans that will take me to San Diego Oct. 4~7. ?I'll be driving my truck anyway & it would be no problem to load up the bike & extra tools / equipment for a couple fun days of Visionary comraderie!  (with these bikes, especially in the expected numbers, it would be nice to have some tools to do any easy couple hour fixes)

I guess y'all can count me as a definite maybe. ?I should know more by the end of this week or early next. ?I'll e-mail Ron for room details.  How 'bout some of the other western states Visionaries?

QuoteMy wife wants to go, but we are not sure yet. ?Finally got all of the bugs out of the V, and I am ready for a road trip!!
If it'll help at all, you can mention to your wife that she won't be the only wife there among us testosterone-crazed bikers. My wife and kids will be there for the weekend, too. I assume that Ron's wife will be there as well. (She attended the last gathering as an active participant, and provided some input on the two-up capabilities of the GTS. :) )

QuoteI know this is a "California" event but could a Colorado V tag along?
Hell yes! The more the merrier. If we start pushing the limits of the building capacity, I'll just bring my tent trailer along for some extra sleeping space. (Well, more accurately, I'll have my wife bring it along behind the four-wheeled vehicle...)

QuoteI have a feeling we will have lots of tools and spare parts on hand!
Like we did in May, and didn't have to use any of it. ?:D

Hoping to see a bit of Sequoia Nat'l Park while there and definitely stopping at the Grand Canyon for a day on my way back to Colorado.  Two more parks to check off my list!   8)

If you're going to Sequoia NP, you may as well visit Kings Canyon NP too, and check one more off your list. I went camping there a couple of years ago, and it was definitely worth the trip. I'd say it rivals Yosemite or Grand Canyon, but without the crowds.

Greg
Title: Re: California Riders Of Vision Fall Run
Post by: h2olawyer on August 31, 2004, 07:27:59 PM
Kind of thought I'd be able to get to both parks.  I tend to think of Sequoia & Kings as one big park instead of two.  Glad to hear it isn't as crowded as Yosemite.  May delay my departure on to San Diego until Monday, Oct 4 just to give them a better visit.

Thinking about a Yellowstone / Glacier trip either early or late next summer.  Probably try to do it on the Vision.  Don't think I'll camp, though.  I'm at the age now where I really appreciate a good bed & real plumbing for showers between long stints on a bike.  10 ~ 20 years ago, camping with the bike was great.  I save the minimalist stuff for an occasional wilderness trip or some of the longer hikes to get atop some of the 14,000 ft. peaks here.

Looking forward to seeing those attending & the sight of at least 7 Visions all parked in a row and in formation on the roads should be fantastic!

I bought my '82 Vision from a junk yard last year as a project to tinker with, and have been disassembling/restoring it ever since.  Since the engine is still in several pieces in the garage, I won't be riding, but  I plan to drive over that Saturday and see an actual Vision.  I've never seen on "in the flesh", only on-line, so this should inspire me to finish it up.

Hi Cougar_Dave -

Looking forward to seeing you.  You should get plenty of ideas and thus lots of incentive to finish your project!  Sounds like there will be at least 6 Visions there.  :o  Ron or one of you other California organizers may have a more difinitive Vcount now.  (Could be enough to set off "the big one" or at least cause the earth's magnetic poles to reverse.)  8)

I've only seen three at the same time and that was just after I got mine in '84.  A good friend bought another '82 when I did and there was one other in Steamboat Springs at the time.  Didn't know the owner of the third one but stopped to look once when it was parked.  That's the only '83 I've seen up close.

Sorry for the late reply on attending the  rally next weekend. I have taken friday off work and should be in the Johnsondale area by late afternoon. I'll be bringing my bike in my pickup and plan on staying in my small trailer.   I'm coming down from the north and see that there are some roads that cut over from 99 at delano area, are these good roads or should I go into bakersfield and take 178?  any sugestions?     this should be fun!  hope to meet everyone soon, Dave   (supervision)  so many hot stators in one area may be considered fire hazard!

I guess we'll all meet at the R Ranch at Johnsondale. To get there from Kernville just turn left after the bridge and go up
the river about 20 miles. You can't miss it. There is a road
sign, and the large "R" Ranch sign. You just turn left on the
entrance road to the security shack and check in. Tell them you  are with the McCoy group and they will direct you to the
cabin. Our owner number is 2445D in case you should need that.

How far is it coming in from the other direction, say, from the intersection of Hot Springs Rd. and Western Divide Hwy?

For the record (if anybody wants to join-up with Matt and I), we're planning on leaving San Jose around noon on Friday, and expect to take between 6 and 7 hours for the trip to Johnsondale. Our route will most likely be:

South from San Jose on Monterey Hwy, to 101, to CA-25 (http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway25.htm), through Hollister, and on to Coalinga via Los Gatos Rd. (http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/LosGatosRd.htm) We'll probably stop at the Harris Ranch travel stop ( I-5 & CA-198 ) for gas, and to meet up with my wife and kids (traveling in a four-wheeled vehicle), so that I can swap passengers. From there, we'll use CA-198 through the central valley, past Lemoore NAS and into Visalia. From there, we'll take Yokohl Valley Dr. to Milo, then Springville Milo Rd to CA-190 (http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway190.htm) through Quaking Aspen, where it turns into Western Divide Hwy, eventually dumping us onto Hot Springs Rd, which will take us into Johnsondale.

(Note: this route is still subject to change, depending on whether or not I get any better suggestions. :) )

We're looking forward to seeing y'all this weekend.

Greg

I hope this is not a pre-quake shock caused by the future
grouping of so many Visions. Oh well, we'll be able to ride it
out with our trusty steeds.
Superfly and Cougar Dave, I wouldn't expect us to get out and on the road too early. If you show up before 9:00 you'll be OK. Keep an eye out for us as you come through Kernville and up the river. If you miss us at first, hang out in the area, we'll be around. Flag us down.
We can't afford a stator incident. its been a dry year and the
fire danger level is high. ;D ;D

I'll be driving over from Vegas that morning, so I'll get there later in the day, but I'll hang around the area until I find the group.  I know that's a great area to ride in, but I don't imagine there will be too many groups of Visions riding around.

Another quake & closer -17 miles NW of Arvin.  Bet Ron got a good jolt this afternoon.   ;D  It closed at least one lane of hwy 178, 20 miles West of Lake Isabella.  Hopefully the road up from Caliente wasn't affected as well.  Guess I'll find out Friday.

Maybe we should call this event the Shake, Rattle & Roll Vision Rally!

I didn't feel the one at Parkfield but the one yesterday happened just as I was going in my front door as I got home from work. The garage door banged and the hanging plant and ceiling fan chain started swaying in the house. This is the
typical earthquake experience. The epicenter was at Caliente,
about 20 miles from my house. I've checked with the CHP and
all roads in the area are open with no restrictions.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll Rally?  ;D ;D ;D

Good news, I took the bike on a good trip this morning to L.A. and the bike ran good.  There are a bunch of little things I need to do to her, but I will try to be up at the meeting place around 9:00 am.

How about a winter  run  to , say, the Colorado River near  Bull head?  There are several old mining towns  to see and the weather will  be just fine. As a plus we would be only 100 miles from Vegas !
Motel rates here in Kingman are  as low as 29.95 in the winter months and my shop would be available for any emergency repairs . We are only 50 miles from the river and the longest remaining stretch of hiway 66 runs right through here. Hey come on guys its lonely out here!

Glen,

Next time you plan a rally let me know. I'm in Burbank with my 82.

Thank
Alan

Alan, I'm a native of Burbank. Escaped to Santa Barbara.
I would expect around January or February of 05 we will posting the next ride date. I belive Mr Branche had in mind picking out some areas for us a little further north for us next time. ????

I would not recommend areas further north in January or February, unless you've got a rain suit you can rely on. March or April would probably be much more comfortable.

Greg,
I agree, It says we would be "posting the next ride date".
I figure we would give 'em a couple of months to get pumped up! I don't like to get wet either! (except on the Wave Runner)
