ok call me stupid or what ever but... :o what does it mean to have your carbs "dipped" i kno i gotta do that but what is it ??? lol
thanks
There is a company called Berryman's. They make a carb cleaning product called Chem-Dip. It comes in a slightly undersized paint type can - about 1/2 - 3/4 gallon. It has a basket inside the can. You disassemble the carb, put all the metal parts in the basket & dip it in the can for about 1/2 hour. Cleans the gunk off the carbs well - unless you are forced to buy the California certified version.

you might not find the Berryman's Chem-dip in a can around here. I've found the spray cans at pep boys though...
Advanced Auto has gallon size cans of Gunk with the basket.... works fine
The spray Berryman's is a different chemical make-up than the dip. Berryman's dip has an amazing odor and a swampy green color. Open the can in a well ventilated area!! The last time I did some carbs, mine seems to have lost its strength. May have to buy another can before the next dipping session. The last can did lots of carbs, though - Visions, Datsun P/U, Quadra-Jets, Carters, Holleys - must have done at least 20 carbs. Plus, its getting pretty old, at least a dozen years. It doesn't seem to be doing its job as well anymore.

Berrymans absorbs water from the air, so keep it well sealed. i seal it even while in the dipping process. after a few dips it seems to get stronger, but loses it's potency over time. yeah, after 12 years it's time to spring for a new can, lol
Was great for 10 years. Always used & stored as you mentioned, Lucky. Just finally lost its potency - maybe Berryman makes a Viagra or Cialis like product to reinvigorate their dip?!? :D

The Pep Boys here in Detroit stopped carrying the gallon Berrymans. I had bought my last can there about 5 years ago. The manager said something about an excessive hazmat shipping charge. I found the Gunk gallon dip at another chain and it worked just fine...cleaned out a set of CB900 carbs that had been sitting for over 10 years. It is a different formulation...it doesn't have that oil film on top and turns the rinse water milky. About the same price...under $20.
