Fried Stator Pics

I took a couple photos of my fried stator and the new one from Rick's.  Sure was a great burned smell from the old one!

Charging went from 12.5 - 13.5 volts, depending on RPM to 14.35 - 14.45 volts

Sure is nice to have a good charging bike again.  8) Also, all claims about synthetic oils are true.  Much cooler running temps, smoother shifting and it feels a little stronger through all RPMs.  The only full synthetic motorcycle oil I could find locally was Bel-Ray Exs 10w-50 Superbike oil.  Have used their other lubricants in final drive and forks so I figured I'd trust it.  $35 per gallon was a little steep, though!  :o  Would have preferred Castrol but only available here my mail order. Went for a 15 mile test ride & no leaks yet.  Hope the Threebond 1104 works as well as Yamabond.  Was told it is the same stuff and it sure looked good when I used it.

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

Wow, I didn't know of any problems with stators. Man, your Vision must be possessed!  :o

Thanks for taking pictures of my old OEM and new Ricks stators...I'm just wondering when you snuck into my garage and did it...

hey ,, those are pics of my last stator and the one i got from ricks ( or something like that ) lol,,
    seems pics like that are great for bringing up such fond memories, cold spring nigh t, siting on concrete,swearing at a bike ,promising to sell it next breakdown,, then when it is all good, we forgive the bike and ride until the next repair .

 Thanks for the pics,  did you notice the higher temp rating on Ricks new epoxy?  is almost double that of factory originals and with a full year warranty,, keep reciept, never know with a vision.

How many miles on your old one? I remember you said that was the original. I guess they must be a little like light bulbs, they will heat up and cool down only so many times before they burn out.

from what I see Rick's stator sucks.... it was given a normal insulation and probably worse than the oem one... generally... I believe I could have it rewound better here by some shop.... no need to pay damn 150 bucks for such a rough job... shame on you RICK'S.

I don't believe Rick's stator will last longer than OEM Vision one.. not from what I see.... heh... I was planning to buy electrex or ricks when I have money... no way

I have a guy here who uses liquid ceramic or glass for inner and outer insulation of the stator.... and the wire... normal wire is given, by rick's.... there's just too much fusss about it guys....

better buy another rick's and keep it in your pocket.. I don't believe their products from now on...


As for the looks of the fried oem.. damn.. I haven't seen such a thing through all the time I've messed with my V, My own stator (OEM) has 60 000 kms on it (about 55 000 miles) and holy shit on a stick... it looks like ricks...... nothing to worry about from what I seee...

Original stator had 6,700 miles before it fried. The insulation looks a little rough but seems to be coating everything.  With the low miles I ride, if I get 4 - 5 years out of it, I'll be happy.  I doubt I'll be going more than 1,500 - 2,000 miles per year since I only ride it for fun.

Glad I could bring up some memories and with the translucent insulation, show that the winding isn't perfect even from the pros.
