I have uncovered vision #3, it's a 82 with 5k miles. I pulled the plugs to get to the mixture screws, they were set at 2 1/2 to 3 turns out. It seems everyone has to set the front carb close to 5 turns out to get them to  run good. It should be up and running this weekend.

Night Vision

does it have the vacuum flapper? or regular?

The dealer I bought mine from did the airbox / jet update before I bought the V.  His mechanic also adjusted the mixture when he did the airbox.  They used an exhaust analyzer to make the adjustments.  I never had the advantage of having 'virgin carbs' even though there were only 6 miles on the V when I bought it.  Even after the work they did, I always had the minor Vision stumble @ 4k.

The dealer (Thunder Motors in Steamboat Springs, CO) was run out of a small, renovated chicken coop.  They had a tall chain link fence for security and kept the new bikes under an old equipment shed which had only 3 walls with the long opening facing north so the bikes were not subjected to any sun / UV.  Kind of like a loafing shed for livestock, only longer.  When I bought the V, they had a second (black) Vision and an XJ650 which looked a lot like a British bike.  I nearly bought that XJ, but I'd had my mind set on a Vision for the previous 18 months.  Never regretted the choice - even after all the stators!

Thanks for the info, Kevin - nice to know what the 'factory' settings were.   8)

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!

'82 Vision, Pearl Orange finish, lots of up-grades!!!

Re-Vision

Took my 82 carbs off and reinstalled the original carbs after replacing broken front carb starter plunger.  Also replaced air box, though the only difference I see between them is that new one is much cleaner with a new filter too. I'm fairly confident that all the hoses are on correctly, but its difficult to start and dies if I don't keep the RPM up.  Even though this bike only has 6600 miles on it, should I overhaul the carbs and adjust the jets or find someone at ROV to help me.  I know there has been a ton of stuff written about carbs but I still can't find a clear and understandable picture or diagram of all the various hose connections at both ends. Haven't ever overhauled a carb but I'm willing to learn after the local cycle shop said they probably need vatted and would only charge me $260 (two hours per carb).  Who knows? Maybe thats a reasonable price, I just wish they were someone I knew well.  BDC

Contact Vnary, long time old school bike tech, and general all round "good guy",  Rick G. regarding having him clean your carbs.

Walt_M.

Whatever you do, don't let anybody dip your carbs for 2 hours! It will destroy the throttle shaft seals and they will just say, 'too bad about that'.
Whale oil beef hooked!

If you want I can go through your carbs for you.
