I'd also be willing to support anyone willing to take on these tasks.

1. Someone to overhaul carburetors and have them ready for exchange whenever needed.

2. Someone to come up with a gas tank that could be rustproofed and dent free as well as unpainted for less than (Hopefully) two hundred dollars. (Fiberglass, plastic, or metal.)

3. Recover seats that look good with quality materials.

4. Someone able to refurbish mufflers that would look and work well.

5. An improved rear shock that didn't cost more than the bike is worth.

6. Someone willing to buy and stock Vision rubber parts and selling them at a modest increase in price.

7. Feel free to add to this list or tell me to quit daydreaming.

There are people here who do the overhauls already.  How fast do you need them really? Do you want to pay extra to compensate for them for the investment ?

Great idea.  Rickmans will do a aluminium one for about 400-500 Euro.  Found a great thread about building tanks out of Carbon Fibre/Kevlar tank for a Suzuki SV

3. Recover seats that look good with quality materials.
There are options here.  There are at least 6 brand new pre-made seat covers on ebay today for the XZ550.  Installing them just needs a little patience.  Actually I think they look a bit NAFF with flames etc, so if I needed one would trot along to any automotive upholsterer.  There are about 30 in my city.  Last one I got done for #1  cost the same as dinner out and looked great.  He even embossed the stock pattern on it so it was hard to tell from original.

4. Someone able to refurbish mufflers that would look and work well.
You can get a BRAND NEW muffler assembly from cycleworks.co.nz
Black $US 275
Chrome $US 395
Stainless $US 500
Shipping to US approx $US 60
They are very nice looking, well made, have removable baffles
and give a noticeable performance boost with no re-jetting required.
They are quite a bit louder than stock but still road legal here - less than 95db @ 4000RPM @ 1 meter.  He can make them quieter on request.
They bolt straight in with no modification needed.

5. An improved rear shock that didn't cost more than the bike is worth.
Glyn and Iain both use second hand shocks out of a triumph, ShaneSpring had one from a RF900.  Minor modifications were required.   I found a local guy who will completely rebuild XZ550 shocks for about $US 145

6. Someone willing to buy and stock Vision rubber parts and selling them at a modest increase in price.
Most rubber parts are available ex Yamaha at a few days notice, or sometimes cheaper from others.  Anyone stocking these would have to have quite a large inventory.    Again, how quickly do you need them and how much is it worth?
What I cannot find anywhere is fairing mirror rubbers, the guy who did the Seca ones www.bdesigns.ca  does not have any stock and does not know when/if he will be making any more.  Also can't find replacement carb rubber thingies at a decent price.

Things I'd like to see:
8. Pre made panier mounts for Shoei SB-2A panniers
9. Replica "Vision" Badges
10. Shim adjustment tool at a sensible price
11. Someone willing to trawl through the forums and assemble a comprehensive list of parts, and addresses/contact numbers of people who stock them (new and used).  A XZ550 parts wiki if you like.  Half the conversations on here are seeking bits and pieces.
12. Someone willing to trawl through the forums and assemble a XZ550 FAQ.  Almost all the discussions are the same old stuff again and again.
13. How to videos of people doing the scarier things... stripping carbs, fixing starter clutches, adjusting valves etc
14. Piston / Ring equivalents
15. Proper heavy duty stators and pre-wired MosFet r/r
16. Air caps that would screw into 1982 fork inners
17. Pre-made replacement wiring looms
18. Pre assembled bolt/screw kits for every bolt on the bike

YellowJacket!

#12.  see xz550.com - Lucky's site.

#13. Lucky and I started doing that but never got around to finishing the editing.  I think we did a video of carb syncing and my front end overhaul/steering head bearings.

I changed from US gearing to EU gearing on my vision, made a significant difference at cruising speed. I dont pay a whole lot of attention to how many rpm an engine is turning at at high speed. If its not vibrating you to death it'll be fine, you've got huge oil pressure and almost no load on the motor it'll run that forever as long as it keeps cool. Might burn more oil but it'll be fine.

What happened to your girlfriend Funk?     BDC

Kenny

 Sorry Tiger,
But the closest your going to get to  6 speed is the Euro gears, I find they make a nicer ride when your putting on 10,000 klm on one ride.
