While trying to get the project Vision to crank it just died all of a sudden.  ( New battery) The display lights dont come on, tach, speedo, oil , neutral.  And the front headlight doesnt turn on while the key is in the start position?  The start button also doesnt work.  Checked to fuses under the seat and they appeared to be ok.  Is there another relay I need to check/ change.
Got WAAP?

Thats the one for the fan.  Most likley you fuse box is  shot . All old Yamahas  suffer from fuse box failure . The clips that hold the fuses in place get brittle at the right  angle bend at the bottom , many times there broken off, if you try to bend them in to tighten them up they break off. The solution  is to get a new fuse box , I use one by Buss it has 4 sets of clips  and you can either use crimp on female spade connectors or solder the wires on. My own bike  has  one that uses modern two prong fuses , but it was 27.00 at my local over priced napa.. You probably have  a failure at the main fuse (30 amp)  so everything is dead.  Also its possasable  that some of your gang plugs are oxidised .QBS has been advocating cleaning these from the beguinning and  I have found that dipping them in  a product  intended to remove rust ,lime and calcium , like CLR for 30 seconds (no more) and then rinseing them in water followed by a shot of WD 40  restores them  to new condition,  have fun!

I've seen some ATO/ATC fuse blocks in some of my marine catalogs. Usually, marine stuff is the most overpriced merchandise known to man but these seem reasonable. I'm looking at a 6 gang block from Overton's for $17. It doesn't give the diminsions but it looks to be about 1X4X5". I might try one when I have a problem.

been there,, done that> didnt get to bring home a t-shirt
replace the fuse box, either with a single ganf fuse panel or go to radio shack and get the water proof fuse holders, (the wp type come in single double or quad fuse configuration.
replace the box and the fuses , then retry the switch, if it is still the same , follow the big wires coming from fuse box, to first connector  may find it burnt out ,, if that is ok, bet on the big connector right under it . i had a few electrical bugs in mine when i bought it , had to give up and just replaced the whole wiring harness.
a lot to be said for making friends here,,, thanks again lucky .

All good stuff above.  But first make sure you have Very Very clean and tight battery connections.  And, as always, a well charged battery.  Cheers.

I believe it to be fuses as the battery is fresh and fully charged, and like I said it was working then all of a sudden it just all cut off.  No fuses were blown under the seat but Im assuming its the whole fuse box unit.  Took the battery out and moved it to my other Vision and cranked it up and the battery worked great, so I know its not the battery.

Remember that glass fuses can look good and be bad. The fuse element can break under the end cap and you can't see it. Always check with a meter to be sure.

Walt is absolutely correct.  If you find that any of your fuses look good but test no continuity, clean your fuse holder prongs to bright and shiney condition, lightly grease their fuse contact areas, and install good fuses.  The Evil Corrosion is insidious.  Cheers.

I found a 4 fuse block that uses the older glass fuses at Advance Auto Parts for $4.99.  Cut out the old fuse block crimped the new fuse block in, all works great.  Only drawback is that it is an "open" fuse block (no cover to snap shut on top of it).  Should I secure a piece of hard plastic up under the seat where it would cover the fuse block?  Obviously not waterproof, but should I be concerned about fire?

Yes, you should cover the fuse block. If something were to get into the battery side of the block, fire is a definite possibility.

I take a pair of  snips and trim the old cover untill it will fit , then I use a couple of 3/4 long sheetmetal screws  to secure it at the ends . just scope it out so that the screws don't contact anything they shouldn't.  No its not water proof but then the old one wasen't either .
