Hello,

I had recently restored a 1974 MZ TS150 (one of 649 imported to the US from East Germany), and have been looking for a bike with a little bit more power. The MZ is a 150cc two-stroke, good enough for in-town (easily goes up to 50 mph), but a road hazard when cruising HWY 1 here in California.

I had been looking at craigslist for a while, mainly 70/80s Hondas, when I stumbled upon gabossie's (also a member) 82 vision. We emailed for a bit, he explained in great detail the condition of the bike, and what was not working, and a day later I picked her up. The starter was removed and taken apart, same for the left side engine cover. The flywheel and starter clutch were pulled also, both in pretty much unusable condition. It has a new stator, though, and the fusebox was replaced with inline blades. Overall, considering her age, the bike is in decent condition, with 16k miles on the odometer.

Since then I have rebuilt the starter with a new shaft seal, and brushes. Got a flywheel and a starter clutch of eBay, and hope to put her back together pretty soon. I could not have done it without the help I got by reading this forum. What a great resource.

The bike itself is intriguing, I like most of its lines. What I don't like is the front end. The bars are way too high (I'm 6'5"). Also the headlight and the instrument cluster don't go well together. Just my personal opinion. But I need to get her going mechanically before complaining about the esthetics :)

If anybody needs those M8 bolts for the starter clutch shoot me a PM. I had to buy 50. They are M8x20, 12.9 grad. Need to be cut to 13.5 mm length or so. Was easy with a handsaw and a HSS blade.

 Thanks, Thomas

Thanks for the ebay link. That is actually cheaper than a pair of decent clip-ons. But again, I think I'm getting ahead of myself. I first want to ride her before making any more statements about the cockpit. Overall I'm excited about the new Vision - something different, and somehow the general design seems to be timeless, must have been quite progressive in the early 80s.

I loved the bike when I first saw it in the motorcycle mags and put one on order before the dealers had them. If I could make any changes, it would have an aluminum frame and a disk brake on the rear.     BDC
