Muffler/Exhaust question

BTW, what do you all think about just welding the muffler back on and leaving it supported by the pipe? I started thinking about it and the pipe is clearly heavier than the muffler.

fret not

You will be better off if you support the muffler.  If left as a cantilevered mass it will respond to road shock and work against whatever IS holding it on the bike.  From experience I can tell you that you don't want to be out on the road somewhere and have the muffler fall off or some other part of the exhaust fail.  Pretty difficult to remedy on the spot.
Retired, on the downhill slide. . . . . . . . still feels like going uphill!
