I don't if I am correct, but I was looking carefully on both carbs today... simply.. 83 petcock rebulit kit kept me awake at nights all the time so.....

today morning I was in front of my carbs again.. and here is my conclusion.. I don't need crappy 83 thing (and tank mod since I have 82)

and tell me please if I am correct....

I am gonna connect fuel return fittings together with a hose.... and that's not all... I will install an 82 fuel pump on an 83 carb....

it should work since the 82 has a fuel regulator...

Does it seem right to any of you???

don't know if that will work or not, but tapping into the tank is simple  get a bulkhead fitting from areoquip or similar, install it under the filler neck, and run the hose down to the carb return line.  problem solved.

Hi Humber,
Exactly what are you trying to do- are you installing an 82 tank to a set of 83 carbs ?
The parts bike I bought last year from Vancouver B.C. had the same setup, all the previous owner had done was put a "T" fitting in the fuel line and used the 82 petcock.
I  had sent a double diaphram off to Martin to see if he could match one up He said Japan would have to make 1000 copies before it was feasable. On checking the differences between the 82 and 83 petcock : the double vacuum diaphram and the "O" ring from the tank to the Petcock are the biggies the other parts will fit.

what I want to do.. USE 82 petcock and 83 carbs.. I don't want to modify my 82 tank to fit 83 not because I don't want to (it is possible), but because there are no 83 rebuilt kits available... (which is dramatic i think)

so... but if you realise, there fuel return lines on 83 and fuel pump has no fuel regulator....

on the contrary, 82 setup is the other way round.... no return lines... and regulator... so I jsut want to cap 83 return lines off and install 82 fuel pump so I have regulated fuel flow....

When using an 83 fuel pump, fuel line pressure is limited by the position of the outlet of the return line, assuming it is above the level of fuel in the tank.  The fuel return line outlet on the 83 petcock is near the top of the tank.  If you use an 82 petcock and connect the fuel lines together, you essentially short circuit the fuel pump.  Fuel will flow from the tank until the tank level is equal to the carburetor bowl height.   There will be fuel left in the tank when the carburetors run dry, the same as running without a fuel pump.

#5
but I would use na 82 pump which is different...

OK guys, anyway.. again it is not going to work because I missed one major thing

one of the 82 bowl cover has a fitting for a fuel pressure regulator. 83 doesn't have it so the cover must be drilled with a dremil and a fitting must be installed....

This can be done..... but... who can assure me that an 83 fuel chamber provides enough pressure to turn the 82 fuel pressure regulator on??? Or mayme it produces too much pressure and the fuel pumm is not going to work at all??

who can come up with some nice ideas???

Step 1:  disconnect the fuel pump and remove

Step 2:  plug the fuel return lines on the carb top, and the vacuum line from the engine

Step 3:  get an electric motorcycle fuel pump, they are self-regulating and small, Honda are nice, CBR, VFR, etc.

Step 4:  install it

That sounds OK, but I have still some time before putting 83 carbs on her... I will wairt... maybe someone finds a source for rebuilt kits....
