Por`ed the tank today, being a newbie you people might already know this, hope I dont look too dumb after this...
I was thinking of way to get the debris out of tank, before I por`ed it. Well I thought I would use a flexible magnet. People I work with didnt think it would work. But to my surprise I got all the chunks out and the sludge came out with it too, the tank was dried out before doing the magnet. the sludge is very magnetic too. I must have got a quarter cup or more out before even doing the cleaning process. I think it made the cleaning way easier. I would have had to get more or the degreaser that comes with the por if i had not dont that. Maybe it was a wasted step I dont know, but I feel better knowing there was absolutley nothing in the tank before getting started, and knowing there is no debris in there that may have got left behind.
After cleaning the tank I noticed i had some holes and a crack on the underside of the tank, Does the matting they sent with the kit hold gas in? They say it does but has anyone had trouble with a repair like that. I used allsteel on the out side of the tank for a repair, after using that just seems matting wouldnt work, but the experts on the use of por would be the ones who knows how it holds up.

Others have said that the matting that comes with the POR kit works. I, myself have never used it. I still swear by JB Weld.

glad to find someone else used it, your right its damn ugly good thing its under side of tank. The wait for the POR to dry hurts especially when the weekend is so nice and cant ride. Now another question is the bike seems to spit and sputter when trying to keep one speed, goes good when your on throttle hard and when your off throttle runs good accelerator pump? or do I need to do another rebuild on carbs, not many miles on this rebuild.

no I sure havent....but it ran great before i did my last fill up when i discovered i needed to tank seal it. I got the bike with 5900 miles on it figured i was safe on the tank seal. So far as I can tell i am the only one who has had trouble with the bike. Uncle had rebuilt the carbs not sure what else he did to it. I think I will go head and do that next. while i wait for the POR to dry. I need to hunt on the sire for how to do that though. I know i saw it somewhere do some more searching on here. Glad I found this site, it has been a big help!
