If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

GT @OH... if I had a choice, I'd get the thickest (2mm)
the sightglass fits into a recess. worse case scenario would be that it stuck out a mm. The chewy ones I've pried out were pretty thick, probably be cause they swelled  :P

what are you looking at? crystal? plastic?
mineral crystals aren't cheap. what kind a price you looking at because I may be interested in splitting costs or something for a couple 2 or 3

huh... guess they are cheaper now... saw some mineral crystals on ebay for $2 + $1.50 shipping... not bad... When I was looking before, they were lots more than that

There were some master cylinder glass kits available on eBay a while ago.  Around $10 for 2 as I recall.  Lucky may know how to contact the guy.

EDIT:  Just did an eBay search & couldn't find them.  I got a sapphire glass watch crystal from a local watchmaker.  Unfortunately, the watch shop recently closed & the watchmaker moved away.  Sapphire crystals are more scratch & shatter resistant than mineral glass.  They're also fairly expensive.  (figure on $30 - $50 US)  The mineral glass crystals are inexpensive.

I was quoted 99 cents for thinner two and $2 for 2mm I'll call to see want type and get back with you's

GT @ oh.

The guy says they are tempered glass..... and the only other thing available is the sapphire.Let me know if anyone needs any I will be going to pick mine up before spring hits. This place apparently supplies to watchmakers that must be why he is so cheap.......and close which is good

for those of you looking for sight glass contact billycarrjr@earthlink.net tell him you are with the ROV and you want to know if he has any sight glasses left. he is the guy that was selling them on ebay. he will give ROV members a special price of $10. i have ordered from him in the past. in fact this reminds me i need to put the new sight glass in the bike. now if i can only remember where i put them.

i just found the email from when i orderd from him:
QuoteJames,
I can cover you. The kit comes with 2 lenses (16.7mm) and stainless steel allen screws. $10.00 to ROV members direct. My Paypal is billycarrjr@earthlink.net. Please include a note with your make/model/year so I can get the right lenses out. If you want to see what the kit is look here - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4616714219&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT. Note that if you choose to buy it thru ebay it is $13.50 shipped. I gotta pay the fees.
Thanks,
Billy

reckon

if this gets to be a problem, I believe PETG will work (it's a very clear polyethylene) I know they pack brake fluid in PET containers, so I stuck a small piece in a glass jar full of brake fluid to test it.

again, this is just in case the supply gets low, or you don't want to shell out $40 for a piece of crystal the size of a dime.  (the piece would cost .25 cents, and be about a dollar after machining)

has anybody installed a kit from the "billy" eBay deal for 2 for $10?
I can get ss screws anytime I want and don't need a package deal. I would rather have "glass"

PS2's email says 16.7mm?

if that's the case, I can probably get 2mm x 16.7mm flat with beveled edge mineral crystals for $3.50 each including shipping... $2 each. $1.50 shipping. But I'd have to check if they have 16.7mm. they didn't have 16mm.

anyone sure 16mm? 16.7mm?

8) Pleased this has come up as I lost all my personal info' when my computer crashed several month's ago... ::) I used one of  billycarrjr@earthlink.net kit's on "The Mistress" at last year's spring rebuild. Pleased that he supplied two as I broke one... :o...Don't ask !!! I will now be buying from him again for "The Canadian". Well worth the small outlay.

I put a 16mm plastic watch lens in mine...my sealant skills were comparable...
it cracked shortly afterwards...painted over it temporarily

gonna try 2mm mineral crystal this time... thanks for the "one shot warning"
the 16.7mm will be a tight fit
