:) I have had a request for a complete RIGHT side engine cover for an '83 "V"...am I right in thinking that the '82 and '83 are different somehow ???

There was a modification made to the right side cover part way through the 1982 production run.  They have 2 different waterpump housings for 82s with a break at a certain serial number.  Beyond that, I don't think there's any difference between later 82 and all 83 right case covers.

You're welcome.  Like I said, I don't think there were any differences beyond those I noted but I am not 100% positive about it.  Call the confidence level about 94.76219%.   :D

so....if you had an 82 right side cover and the water pump hosing from that same right side cover... it would fit an 83?
if it ain't worth doing it the hard way....

Most likely, yes.  The gasket for the side covers is the same for all 82s & 83s.  Again, about a 94.76219% confidence level.

11 H-15421-01-00 Orignal 82 cover, 11-H-15421-02-00, new part, From 3/82 #010177 on. The outer pump cover, and thermostat cover are new parts as well, all the water pump parts are the same. It looks like if you change the entire assembly it will fit ok. While you have the clutch cover off, check the plastic oil pump drive gear for wear.

Good tips - also replace the crank seal behind the snap ring.  Better safe than sorry!

  On My Red/Yellow 83 I have an 82 r/h engine cover installed as the original was cracked near the brake arm pad. I suspect the original was damaged by a tip over and the brake pad pushes into the cover,something to watch for.
  The water pump housings are slightly different I believe the 83 will fit on an 82 cover but an 82 w/p cover will not fit on an 83 case .
