First ride on Black "Beauty" has been completed. Now for some questions.

Okay, I know this is starting out sounding like it should be in the going riding section, but I have some tech questions alongwith it.

So I took my first ride on Black "Beauty" and things went pretty good.  It was just a real quick rip up to the school and back (.5 miles each way).  It was a short ride, but there were some issues so I didn't go on the loop more then once.

So here are my issues.

There was a bog down issue between first and second.  I am assuming that it did this because the carbs still aren't synched yet.

Another issue was the friction zone on the clutch was very small.  Need to adjust the cable some.

But the main issue was that the rear brake pedal had to be pushed down until it was almost touching the ground before the rear brake would catch.  Is this just an adjustment.  The brake pedal is horizontal in regards to the ground when it is on the spline, I just have to push it really far down to get the rear brake to work and then it is so ackward I can't get it to grab much.

But other then that I had a blast.  Still smiling. ;D

or the pilot screws aren't adjusted correctly, or they are still dirty, or you have a vacuum leak.... or...
sync them and eliminate at least one of the above

or the clutch pack just needs some miles and action.... I wouldn't bother trying to adjust the clutch cable until you have more than 1 mile on it...

you may have to reposition the lever and/or the brake arm on the hub on their splines there is an indicator that shows if the pads are beat... read the manual

bet the wifey is happy it runs too!  ;) keep at it, you're getting closer to Viszen

Thanks NV.  I just finally found in the book where to adjust the rear brake.  The pedal position is where I like it, I just need to turn the adjuster bolt on the rear drum adjustment bar until it meets the .6 to 1.00 inch free play specs per the manual.  It is going down about 1.5-2.0 inches.  Not sure where my tape measure is, so I am guestamating.  I wont make the adjustment until I can actually get an acurate measurement.

And yes she is happy that it is running.

samsr measured mine when he was helping me but it's dipping down a bit too far for my liking so I've been fiddling with the adjustment to make it so it isn't so far to go.  It's got new pads and the indicator barely moves when it does engage showing they're fine so it's definitely the pedal.  It's not so bad I can't use it or to be a hazard, just too far to be comfortable with it.

My initial guess would be to check the indicator/drum shoes and possibly replace 'em.  Compared to most of the things on here that should be a piece of cake (especially since I managed it guessing the whole time and have a hard time catching up on everything else :P ).

Ah, such fun to be out riding...

I turn the adjuster in until theres a bit of drag on the wheel, then i go one half turn out.
With my cages i just adjust the adjusters out until the drum barely drags and let the car scrub out the remaining clearance :)

Okay, that is three people who do it the same way, so that is what I'll do.  It'll make it simpler to adjust instead of constantly tweaking it for 3-4 days.  Thanks for the tip guys. ;D
