Today is the day I do the POR 15.  So I drain the fuel and remove the tank.  Then I turn the tank upside down to see if I can get any more fuel out, and there is a sending unit for the fuel gauge.  I had mentioned before about the strange petcock the I had seen and someone said that it is probably off of an 83.  I guess I have an entire 83 tank.  I have an 82 petcock with a fresh rebuild that I am putting on because the 83 petcock is leaking a considerable amount.  But if someone changed out the tank they may have changed the carbs.  So my question is how do you tell the difference between the 82 and 83 carbs?  This is mainly for future reference, because everyone, it seems, has or will have carb issues at so time.

Don't tell me about your "gonna do" projects.  Just do it already.  I don't want any coulda, shoulda, woulda in my life.

83 carbs are very different, some ways to tell:
--synq rod & pilot screws are on the right.
--83's have two 1/4" lines going to the petcock, 82's only have one.
--83's have a vaccume line going from the rear accel pump to the rear intake, 82's dont.
--82's have a triangular shaped regulator built into the fuel pump. 83's don't.
--82's have a tiny rubber line going from the fuel pump regulator to the top of the front carb.

If you have an 82 carb and want to use an 82 tank to match, I have one, already POR'ed, if you want to do a straight trade.

Thanks for the info and the offer, but my 83 tank is almost perfect.  I am just doing preventitive mentenence, and the petcock was leaking so I was just doing everthing at once.

The installation of a round healight was uneventful.  However, fabricating mounting brackets for an aftermarket sport fairing is getting on my nerves.  I hate bending steel.  I am going to do the YICS while the POR cures.

Let me know anyone wants or needs a good pic of the fuel gauge sending unit while I have it out.
