My Vision's cold start always takes over 5-8 seconds to turn over with the choke fully open. Is that too long?  It never fails to start though, as long as I keep the battery charged.  When the engine is warmed up, she starts instantly.  I want to eliminate this 5-8 second delay and get her to fire up like instantly.  Could someone point me in the right direction?

??? Are you using the recommended 10w30 motorcycle oil... ???

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!

QBS

If you're not allowing time (2 minutes should be enough) for the carbs to fill from the Prime fuel petcock position, then definatley try that procedure.  If you are allowing time for carb fill and its' still starting as you described, but is running well in all other ways, consider it a unique character of the bike (they all have them) and declare victory.

Mine is defenatly cold blooded & hates anything below 40-45 degrees all night.  se'll start, but under protest.

someone long ago (qbs?) mentionedplumbing in a couple of rubber hoses into the airbox to squirt starting fluid in when cold.  worth consideration...

as QBS stated... priming the carbs after it's been sitting for more than a day or two should be standard proceedure for anyone's startup routine....

using synthetic oil also aids in getting quicker cold starts.....

you didn't state whether you give the throttle a twist or two before you hit the starter.
that give's it a fresh shot of gas from the accellerator pump nozzels and might help your cold starts.... does mine...

if I had to guess, everyone's startup proceedure is different

Lucky. that was probably me . I added them in MN.  and used them there , didn't need them much in OR. and not at all here, so I took them out. Mine starts so quickly now, that its hard to believe. When warm you don't hear it turning over , you hit the button and its running. when cold ( 40 deg.  or less) it wants full choke , but starts quickly.

Yes, set it to prime, a couple of throttle twists, choke to 1/2 and she fires right up. I never would have believed it.  Gracias

Actually, the prime setting should fill the 2 carb bowls in about 20-30 seconds, unless the flow is extremely anemic, but it wouldn't run well if that were the case.  The Vision is special, having the accelerator pump in the carbs, it gives a true "prime" in the intake throat like old cars used to have.  Other bikes have CV carbs which have no 'pump' like it.   :)

When I first read your post, the way that you described taking 5-8 seconds to turn over...thought the starter were having trouble. Butt, the crew here came to the rescue and got ya going again...   :D
