Hey memory time!!

I remember that fairing, a friend of mine had a silver one back in 84, (he was a redhead himself), he used to get right ropey when my XZ550 kept on cleaning him up  ;D ;D ;D I seem to remember him saying it did an okay job of breaking the wind.

It looked quite respectable in silver with blue and black trim. I saw a pristine one the other week, it was in for service at my friends bike shop, personally I don't like the white or red ones but the silver is nicely understated and sort of worked......

I was thinking the same thing, the fairing is really curvy (i know, doesn't match our styling) but my bike is, for now, silver & that would mute it some. or i might hate it...lol

I like the driving light holes, that's a nice location.

I see a round headlight conversion in your future. I had to extend the headlight mounting ears out and lower the horn to have enough clearance. I can help with the brackets if you want.

Lucky

Kevin, you have that fairing? Pics?

No iI put a Tracy fairing of Carlie's princess bike.

Lucky

Kevin, you sure know how to make black look good! you might want to consider doing the fork lowers black, a-la 83.

i'll let you know if i win the fairing & get a round headlight for it what i need. you do great work!

Bummer, I was getting warm to the I idea of a new project. I had posted this earlier so rather than peck it out again I'll just paste.      Last winter I had the side cover off Carlie's bike, I cleaned it with carb cleaner and cut a piece of plywood about the size of the cover, put the plywood and cover in a rubbermade dishpan size tub with about 1 inch of water. Then for the next week while watching tv I would wet sand said cover with 400 then 1500 grit paper and finished off with metal polish. Next was the oil filter cover and driveshaft drive gear cover, passenger peg mounts, fork lowers, valve covers, handlebars. There's a lot of aluminum on these bikes!!!

the top tripple clamp is EASY. drip it in carb dip for 2 min. under the paint it's pristine. be sure to clearcoat it afterwards.

I stripped the clear coat off without removing the case covers, I painted then with  paint stripper  , while I watched a game on TV  after 3 coats and 2 beers , about 10 to 15 minuets apart( the coats not the beers), I scrubbed the lacquer of with a nylon pot scrubber  after washing the residue off, I used my sheep's wool buffing pad in an electric drill and some Mothers, to make them look like new .  I redo them once a year  as I don't like clear coat.
