I have an idea to mod the tail light to LED specs.  The link below is to an LED board that I searched on Ebay.  It is 4cm x 4cm, and is a 1156 socket design.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Super-Bright-36-LED-Light-Panel-Board-Car-Tail-Bulb-New_W0QQitemZ260350559351QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Electronics_Parts_Accessories?hash=item260350559351&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

What I'm thinking of doing is to take apart the red lens cover from the black bulb housing.  Then to cut out the square reflector in the middle of the tail lens, but only from the inside.  This way I will have a 45mm x 60mm square opening inside to mount another LED board with 1157 socket end.

Then I would just superglue these 1156 LED boards inside, one on each side of the tail lens where the cross hatching would be.  This would be my turn signals, and the area where the clear red lens is , I would mount the 1157 board and that would be my parking/brake light.  All I think I would have to do is convert to original 1557 sockets over to 1156 type (maybe 1156 will work in 1157 socket, don't know yet), and then just make some custom wire extensions that will hook into the original turn signal wiring.  Then I will install a relay that is designed for LED turn signals and that should be that.  Also I think I will superglue some black thin plastic between the individual LED boards, so as to create seperate compartments.  This way I think no light will leak over to the neighboring compartment.

I think the board in the above link can also be used in the stock turn signal housing as well.

Anyone want to comment on this idea?

All in all I think this might be the easiest and cheapest way to convert over to LED brakes and signals.
Keep it upright and she'll always be happy!

Loves to over think things.
