Sometimes you just need to see if it's plugged in

I posted a few weeks ago about my '82 cutting out at speed and got a lot of helpful advice but haven't had any time to act on it.  Well the other night I figured it was time to tear into things and figure out what was up.  Well the first thing I did was pull the side cover off the battery with the intention of charging the battery up so I could troubleshoot electrical. Well imagine my surprise when I discovered the negative wire to the battery was so loose there was only a couple of threads holding the screw in.

Charged the battery, got the bike started and took it out for a ride.  Well 1/2 hour later with no signs of cutting out, I start to think that was the problem the entire time!  I'm actually feeling pretty sheepish about it because I'm always on my team at work to always start with the simple stuff when troubleshooting computer problems and to not jump to conclusions that something dramatic and complex is wrong!

So a lesson reinforced is... Check to see if the damn thing is plugged in first!
