Broke the vision out today after a long winter sleep.Me and my son went for a ride.( I bought a used K bike, sure can't beat 1000cc).Anyway my son is a new rider, and likes the vision. We fought with hot starting issues.Had to resort to bump starting.I always drain the carbs before I park it for the winter.I'm hopeing it's just stale gas.Any other ideals on hot starting issues.

Draining the carbs can leave some residue that will harden up and clog passages and crud up the carbs.  They probably need a good cleaning.
Also may be a venting issue with the vent in the gas cap.  Next time it happens, try loosening up the gas cap to let some air in then try to start the bike again after letting it prime a bit.

I put fresh gas in,no real change. It seems that after it back fires out the pipe it will start. That would seem to be a rich condition.I am going to check valve clearance too.

Tiger

Hmmmmm, a back fire...are you sure that the battery is FULLY charged and staying charged up??

TIGER
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!

I agree with Tiger.  Even with my DVM readin 12.1V, YJ will give a helluva backfire.  Sounds like a double barrel shotgun blasting through my MAC exhaust pipes.

I really don't think it's a voltage issue. There seems to be plenty of power to crank it over.I'm going to try to spend some time on it tomorrow.

Night Vision

try putting the petcock on prime for a minute or two and see if there's any difference.

The exhaust valves in the rear cylinder were at .002 I reset them to .007 Put new plugs in,filled it with Sunoco ultra, some over priced gas  treatment and it starting right up.I took it for nice ride early evening.Air was cooling off and it ran great.I had picked up a used k100rs that I could two up with and it's nice. There is still something cool about my vision.I might even put a little money into the suspension.Any ideals? Thanks for the help suggestions.
