hey guys,
reading through some of the posts there are different recomendations for fork oil,
and reading in the manual it recomends 10w30 engine oil????
ive never heard of this, is there no difference between fork and engine oils???
what do you reckon the best sort of weigh oil i should chuck in for a 100kg lad (220lb)

cheers

Gack, that's wrong :-)

10w30 is the engine oil. Most people use 15wt for the forks, some use 10 wt, a few use tranny fluid.

I believe I used 15 wt, and I use 10w40 for engine oil.

I weigh 195 (though I used to weigh 210.)

I used ATF in my dirt bike.. I havent got around to my street bikes yet. I was thinking about genuine fork oil, but they're very proud of that oil. Very.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!

ok, 15w it is,
so is the 10w30 engine oil a misprint in the manual for use in forks??
ive never heard of running engine oil in forks before,

hmmmnz, my Haynes and Yamaha manuals both call for 15 w fork oil.   BDC

The factory recommended fork oil in GB is 10 -30  engine oil , at least in 1982.  It way too stiff for me, I don't even like 15 wt fork oil , I prefer atf , it's what we used in Triumphs , BSA's and then current Yamaha's, Honda's , etall. In cold weather 15 wt will beat you to death. One of the new 0- 30 ans 5 -30 motor oils would probably work well too , that is, if your bike isn't hiding in the garage, all winter.

Winters aren't a problem where I am.  Summer gets a bit chilly...

The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco...

Amazingly, not Mark Twain...
