The heat.

So the vision has been my only form of transportation for about 3 weeks because of some guy not looking before he merged and killing my beater POS we were using while the truck and the F4i were being repaired. Its been about 113 F (45 C) here in the afternoon and on the black rubberized asphalt we have here its about 125 F (52 C) to 135 F (57 C) as the on the road temperature. Now the only thing I had to do to help the vision cope was to bump the idle up a bit since the heat made it want to idle at about 500rpm. Here is the thing with the rear cylinder right below me and my girl on the bike I am coming home with first degree burns on my inner legs from where we stop in traffic. Has this been a problem for anyone else? Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep some of the heat away from the legs.

Asbestos chaps?  ;D

I rode 264 miles home from the beach last week, and I burnt my thighs also (especially on the right). My saving grace was a rain squall which dropped my engine temp considerably, and after getting out of the rain I put on my cruise control and rested my wet glove on my thigh...very soothing. By the way, were you wearing shorts like I was when you burnt your leg?

Sometimes you have to lose everything before you can find yourself

Wearing shorts... there's the problem.
I got myself some Joe Rocket pants that have huge vents across the thighs and butt.  They are comfortable in the heat, and i feel that they will help stop road rash if i crash.

Vs do put out a lot of heat at the rear cylinder.  Seriously, consider wetting your pants legs.  During hot desert riding I ride as soaked as possible.  At gas stops I will completely soak everything I've got on.  Makes for very comfortable hot riding.  Don't cast disparaging remarks until you've tried it.

If we keep these bikes going long enough, wet pants will be automatic! LOL  ;D ;D :D

Trust me.  I knew that remark was coming, just didn't know from whom.  Lucky wins the gold star.

You think Visions are bad...try riding a Harley! Right side engine heat is really bad news...and there's a good reason to wear pants in hot weather as it shields your body from the heat.  Exposed skin gets hotter than covered even in the sun.  A full sleeve polyester running shirt or pants if necessary dipped in water works great as QBS described.  And you old coots leave the adult diapers home because they insulate too much (...or so I've been told by others  ;D).

Oh I wear pants when I ride. I always think to my self man its hot in this gear but can you imagine laying on the black asphalt in shorts if someone hit you. There have been more than a few young riders who found out the hard way, the reason the more experanced riders wear pants in phoenix is because the second and even third degree burns that people get from that asphalt while waiting for help to arrive is more painful than the road rash and leaves worse scars and can lead to some really nasty infections.
