One of my spare visions came with a std looking fairing mounted to the forks. It is an 84 xz550. The fairing has rubber inserts on the side through which the std indicators fit,
and it has a Yamaha logo inside. Was this a gen Yamaha fixture?. The windshield is cracked (of course) and I wondered
if any company (or maybe Yamaha?) still stock the perspex shield. Perhaps I could get one made by an aftermarket co. Any owners had good / bad results from this?

Regards

Glyn :)

To the best of my knowledge, there were two styles of 1/4 fairings available  from Yamaha,  in the states  Clearview and Gaustaufson
make replacement windshields  for them . Some have experimented with doing there own . Paul has a fellow in Poland who does very nice shields  at reasonable cost , but I'm sure he would need  an old one as a pattern , these smaller fairings do not seem to have been availble in Europe. You can go to the gallery and see if you recognize your fairing  and let us know which you have.

Thanks for that Rick. I'll search the gallery when have a bit of time between bouts of rust treating the old 84 XZ in the garage.

Hi Glynn . You,re a fellow kiwi right . Visual Plastics in Hamilton New Zealand has two profiles for the xz . Ihave the 400 import model and he did a cool blue tinted one to match my colour scheme, he also has the smaller "darbi'" as well . both are around $130 . It sounds like you have a genuine yamaha item so he should be able to do you one mail order.Visual Plastics advertise in the bike mags incl ,mototrcycle marketplace(online) and Kiwi Rider.Drop me an email some time , I,m  on the members list pge 10  seeya   Alan

Thanks for that Alan. I can't log into the members page for some reason. I'm on pickteam@xtra.co.nz

Be good to swop a few notes. Still cleaning off the rust and crud from my 550 before doing the recommended mods. Getting there but it's hard graft. Amazing how some people let their bikes go. Mind you it seems to have a good motor so that's a bonus.

Cheers

Glyn.
