first, how do the rollers look?  this will be a case where your professional judgement will help.
I have heard stories here of people who have had theirs welded.  I think that would be the way to go. again, professional judgement here.  sounds like you might want to get it magnafluxed to be sure it's just one small one, & if so, weld it & grind it down smooth.

That's 'cause I didn't mention spacers...but figure slightly smaller than the cap OD.  Betcha Rick knows!

I think 3/4 in PVC pipe will work for spacers.  I have 1 extra inch preload in mine.

I used 1/2 inch pvc , it was a bear to put together, I didn't like it made it pogo a lot  and every bump in the road hit me in the sholders. I  went to air forks. Having said that , I'll add that, I have arthritus in my sholders ,so their a bit sensative to bumps, also I didn't try a different weight of oil. It could be I'm just an old cream puff.lol

ok,, good news,, got the starter mess all fixed up,,
had the clutch pack brazed, ground it down smooth,, used large power sander at local napa store,, (the one used to true heads on,, old stuff , but still works )
got it all put together,, fired up on second or third revolution,,, back to riding
guess am going to hold off on spacer idea for now,, get used to forks with oil in both sides at same time ,, lol
went looking for fork brace,, may not do that either ,, unless can buy one out at parts yard ----- lowest price i found tonight was 125.00 and a three week wait ,, so most likely going to let that idea simmer .

By the time you read this i'll have won this fork brace on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2434294720
he offers them all the time, and often no one bids on them...
$30, can't beat it!

I know people talk about the spacers and air in the forks  I put in progressive springs and it is a whole lot better.  plus I have the front fork brace.  also consider replacing the race bearings with tapered.

Rick G

The guy with the fork braces  puts one on every week or so . so don't get into a bidding war  with someone, Don't pay over 34 dollars , just wait  for the next one . latley they have been going for 30.00 .
I bought  2, one for myself and one for a friend. I really like  the tune up they gave the forks , that and the tapered rollers.

ok  all done ,, got the forks redone, at home and thanx to lucky for the dope sheets -  but i did add an inch to upper spacer sections and should have my new ,shiny forged fork brace anytime now.
i rebuilt the starter clutch as instructed,, have a few extra bolts , guy just gave me a hand full at supply store- they are easy to get , grade 8 metric  allen, m8x1.25  i got the 20mm ones,, then loc-tite ,cut ,form to peen ,,, works like a new one . case seeps just a bit, but am going to do seal tear down when the snow flies,,,  or january if it doesnt snow. until then , am going on any run i can with her,, hasnt let me down yet , and the starter thing was just a red-face day,, not a let down
