ok i have 2 visions both with the same problem that i just cannot figure out.
both visions crank VERY slow. both have recently rebuilt starter on them.
even when i run jumper cables directly to the starter all i get is a slow crank.
but when i take the starters out of the bike and "bench test" them they whirl over very good.

i am getting highly frustrated with the bike(s) because no matter what i do it wont start now.

please help me sort out my sanity (or insanity)...

What are the batteries vdc right before you crank?  You need to see at least 12.6.

I think it might be a possibility this might be a result of the planetary gears not being lined up perfectly when you reassembled.  Don't ask me how I know this.

Just so I'm clear, have either of the bikes ever cranked significantly faster than they do now or have they always been this way? Who rebuilt the starters?

You also mention two bikes crank slow but only one won't start? So the slow cranking may not be causal?

I second the planetary gear alignment.

Could be voltage drop across the solenoid/cable. While cranking , measure the voltage on the cable on the starter. Should be close to the cranking voltage of the battery.

12.8vdc at battery and at starter.    i agree i may have the gears mis-aligned i will look into this and let yall kno!     thank you again

An easy test.  Drop the starter out and see if you can rotate it by hand.  If it is aligned it will rotate fairy easily but with resistance.  If misaligned it's hard to rotate by hand.
