Today i had taken the tank off and ripped off the flap on the air box blocked the vacum tube up tightened up the clamp on the bottem of the carb and presto, full power, perfect idle and excelleration is excellant.
Will take it for a long ride on sunday and test it.
maybe some one else can try it and let me know if it works.

i'd be very interested to hear about your experience on this long trip to see how the vision performs.   i think some people way back when attempted to do this..with very bad results..  but then you have to think...and hope that you can get that flap back on... because the flap MUST serve some purpose because it is part of the Yamaha carb Update..  wasnt on the bikes from the factory... (82's im certain at least)..    so yamaha must have found it helped some way.

but if it works for you..  let us know..   maybe we can finally get rid of this carb stumble.

Well went for a good ride today 220 klm's and it went really good. the only problem i have at the moment is to adjust the float on the back carb.
The only reason i think yamaha put that flap in there is for the colder weather to make it start a bit easy, just like on the carb cars they have a flap on the neck of the air filter that will close when cold and open when hot.
Maybe some one else can try and doing what i have done and see if it makes a differance.

I'd be more than happy to try out this mod.. im doing absolutely nothing this entire week.. just sitting at home.  good time to get some riding/working on the vision.  I have to make a ride up to washington DC to scope out a building for a friend (damn all those one way streets), and dont really want to have to chance the vision dying in the middle of the city, but afterwards ill definately try this out.

oh, also.  One thing i did to the vision.  I noticed it helps it run (relatively) a lot cooler.  connected to the front cylinder is a plastic baffle (air dam).  take this sucker out.  i remember a while ago when i was mentioning that i took it out, people mentioned that the hot air would affect the carbs, but i havent noticed any power difference, except that the engine runs cooler.  while riding (40mph and up) , the needle hangs around 1/2 way..RARELY going past that.  in the city.. in slow conditions, it'll go up closer to the red mark, but unless i just sit there for 10 minutes with the bike running, i can say ive never seen it go into the red.  plus, i figure with that off and all the ambient air coming from the sides, it cancels itself out, and would help to bring more air through the radiator since there isnt something stopping it just a few inches behind the radiator.  just my 2 cents.

just another thought.

I'll be sure to let you know how the flap mod goes.

 8)  Just another thing i had done to was that i replaced the normal spark plug with a hot one .

NGK IRIDIUM part Number DR8EIX

They are a bit expensive but seem to be a lot better than mormal ones.
