i have been doing some mods to my v and was looking at the pic gallery and noticed that alot of you dont have the vision name on your battery covers. did you sand them off or what. i have repainted my tank from black to red and want to do the rest of the plastic the same but i dont want the vision logo on the battery cover but i dont want to destroy the plastic either. also just as a note i have removed the rear turn signals and replaced them with a pair off a 2004 katanana i got from a buddy of mine who took them off his for a smaller pair. it makes the back of the bike look really great now i have to find a pair for the front. i also plan on replacing the front head light with a round one as soon as i find one that will fit i really like the looks of the ones i have seen.

It's been more than a decade, but I think I used a hairdryer and slowly lifted the "Vision" plastic name off the sidecovers. The glue came off with... argh, I can't remember. Could have been rubbing alcool.

lou's way should work, but be careful you don't warp the plastic with the hair dryer.

the badges (on the tank too) are held on with thick double stick tape. you can use some stiff plastic, such as a bondo spreader to cut the foam tape, then use the alcahol to rub off the sticky side. that's how i got mine off.

thanks for the info my tank didnt have the logo on it when i got it but i will have to try it on the sides. i assume that it is the same for behind the seat. the reason i want to take them off is cause they are all faded and the gold paint is flaking off in spots so i figured i would take them off and just have some decales made for the sides of the take or let my brother air brush some design on. he likes to do that kind of stuff as long as he has total say so over what he puts on. he's got that artist bug i guess.

I once saw tip in Cycle World  about using dental floss to cut through the double stick tape.  Sounds pretty non invasive and can't cost much to try.  Let us know how it turns out.  Cheers.

Once you get the emblems of, try using either Goo-Gone or Goof-Off (available at hardware/home improvement stores). Goof-off is the only thing that I've found that will easily remove old racer's tape residue.

This may be of help.

I saw a Yamaha SR 250, the cruiser like commuter single, in the street the other day. It had tank badges exactly like the Visions. Don't know what year they stopped making them
but it would have been alot longer and  later than they made the Vision!

I changed my tank badges over from another tank. Just carefully used a thin bladed paint stripping knife. One of those things with about an inch thick springly blade. Came off nice and clean, just take your time.

I tried the dental floss to remove tank emblems. Worked like a charm. Emblem came right off-without the tape. O-well, tommorow is another day.
