If you want the short version read this. If you want the long version read everything.
1. How do you remove the fairing frame supper from inbetween the fork and the head tube.
2. what is the secrect to removing the carb
3. I have an aftermarket horn (FIAMM or something like that) How do these work?

I am in the process of tearing this thing down to work on it. I have the fairing frame removed but one bar is stuck, I cant get it out. Its the one inbetweek the top of the fork and the head tube.

I got the tank off and all the cables off. I also have the carbs seperated from the intake. Now how do you get the thing out?

In the Haynes manual it says to work it ouf of the left side of the frame. Physically I do not know if this is possible.
Do I need to take the intake off and then remove the carb from the bike?

Also the orginal owner (my friends dad) had an aftermarket horn (FIAMM or something like that) and I understand most of it but cannot seem to get it to work. It gets voltage from a seperate 12V line from the bat. And one wire is connected to one of the two of the horn wires. Is this right? Is this horn anything special or should I try to get an OEM unit.

thanks a bunch as usual

ok, Lucky can probably give you a better description on removing the carbs
I believe he has it down to a science by now.
they do come out from the left side once you move the wiring harness
out of the way.

I've had the fairing bracket off of my bike before but I don't think
there was any trick to it. make sure you get the bolt out that attaches
it to the frame.

depending on the type of Fiamm horns, they usually run to a relay first
and then the hot lead goes to the horn units.
if they were never wired up with a relay, that could be the problem.
Fiamm horns are supposed to be good. as to whether yours are, I can't say.
if you don't want them, snap me a picture and I might be interested....
but that is up to you, certain models are definately louder than stockers.

hey on getting thoes carbs out i always had to take the little black boots out as well... i did it quite a few times and i dont remember ever getting them out without taking them off :) although maybe i just never tried hard enough and dont know what im talkin about but thats my shot. :-\

to get the fairing brace out: loosen one side of the tripple trees that hold the fork tube in, slide the fork tube down & wiggle out the brace.

Carbs: pull the wire harness out & up slightly from the frame, spray some WD-40 on the intake boot, it's a squeeze past them but it'll fit.

the horn:

the horn is a negitive (ground) side switch.  I have horns from a Ford Taurus on my bike (LOUD) you must use a relay, i have a diagram somewhere, poss on my site...

So I want to make sure I got this stright.

I want to loosen the bolts on one side of the triple clamps upper and lower and push the leg down??

And then once the brace is out of the way just push the leg back up and tighten the bolts back?

I know one horn worked before I took all the stuff off. Can I hook up the hrn directly to 12v to get it to sound?

I like the idea of having really lound horns. I am the paranoid type and would like to be as noticable as possible.

I ended up taking the whole insturment panel off and took the support out that way. That was pretty easy.

And then I moved the wireing harness out of the way. I took it out of the hoop at the front of the bike and like magic it came out without any problems at all.

I was able to get both horns to work. Now I have to see if the relay works. Its all coming together.

Now for the carb rebuild.
