Front Brake Question

When I squeeze the front brake caliper, I have to put a lot of effort to bring it towards me. I feels like I'm squeezing one of these handgrip exercisers.  I'm building a lot of muscles in my hands after a while.  Should the squeeze pressure be similar to the clutch caliper (smooth and easy)?  As I am new to this, how does one lubricate the brake cable?  Are there any adjustments I can make to decrease the resistance of the calipers?  Granted, I can't grab the calipers and so quickly lock the front brake, it does feel like I'm always giving my right hand a workout.

The front brake is hydraulic, there is no front brake cable.  So, it should get tight as you squeeze the brake lever.  It shouldn't feel like the clutch at all.  You should never be able to get the brake lever to the grip, if you can, your front brakes need work.
