well its back to square one agian it seems. rebuilt the starter and put new oil in and she still doesent want to start without help from a jumper box. battery is new and so is the stator. charging system is ok. i guess i got too used to the fzr just poping off. i really wanted to get the vision back on the road. now i wish i haddent gotten the fzr. i let the vision sit after getting the fzr. after a few years of riding the vision and getting all the kinks out, making her a fun road worthy machine, even taking her for a cross country trip, i let her sit and now im thinking shes gonna make me pay for it. it just acts like the starter is full of oil, or the battery is dead. im lost as what to do. i know the v needs a good battery to start. its got one. it needs a clean starter, its got one of them too. im about ready to sell her back to my buddy (not really, he has no money) and buy the new jets and tubes for the fzr.

Clean the connections from the battery all the way to the starter. I bet you've got some corrosion goin on :)

after my last post i went out and fired up the V. i let her run for probally 7-8 mins then shut her off. she would barely crank over on her own power. so rehooked the battery tender and looks like tommarow ill be checking the carging system again. the stator has around 2000 miles on it. if its bad again im gonna be HOTT. the connections are clean though, already check that.

Make sure that the starter cable isn't corroded in side the plactic sheath, that will really drag the starter down.

Tiger should still have some of his AWESOME cables for sale.  Highly recommended!

Think you'd be hot after 2,000 miles on a stator?!?  I got 1,000 miles out of each of the last 5 I've installed!

Good luck tracing your 'issue'.

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

An interesting test would be to take a "chronic stator eater" motor and swap it with another one.  Just a motor swap.  If the bike still eats stators, it has to be something in the electrical system.  If not, it has to be something in the motor.

A good EASY starter test. Put a voltmeter on your starter terminal. It should read 9.5-10V while cranking. If it does and the starter is turning slow, connections are ok so the starter is the problem. Less than 9.5, connection, starter relay or battery.
