Carb cleaning

I finally got off my ass and gave the carbs on my vision there first ever cleaning. they wern't too bad, just a little rust in the fuel pump and bowls from before I lined the tank.

I removed the mixture screws and put em back in the same spots they were in before which was 4.25 rear and  5.25 front. I have the early 82 carbs. does that sound even close to being right? I got a weird feeling about it. I did have o rings on the screws.

Thoughts?

still running the flapper and Yics till i get her re-jetted. dipped most of the carb, was careful of the ventricle (ha ha lame heart pun) seals and what not.

now whats this about 10 more turns on the fuel pump?

I plan on doing the re jet soon the sooner I can get some of these damned emissions controls of of Maeve the happier I will be. 14.7 to 1 is for Patsies. I want 12.5 to 1!

I dont know how much the PO upgraded.. I DO have the flapper,, I redid the yics, Still have a flat spot at 4-5k. It seems like its leaning out.. I need a 90 inline fuel filter to run the line better, the straight one is ran weird. I read that the fix for the early 82s included one sized larger main jets, one size smaller air inlet jet, and 10 turns additional (5mm at .5 mil per turn) on the fuel pump rod... I dont know about the jet sizes because they wont come out and the tops have been chingered a bit, and my eyes wont see that small anymore. Was thinking about a rebuild kit, with the right jets, and get these out by whatever means possible, and try the 5mm and see if it worked for me..

funk, if your air pilot jets are buggered, try taking a sharp chisle/punch and hammer to them

ok. Im gonna wait to get too far out until I have replacement parts in hand. Meanwhile,, Im reading all I can find about it.. These carbs are weird. Another question,, do I get a kit for the 83 to get the right sized jets? I noticed 83 had diaphragm parts for fuel pump too..the 82 didnt. HEY Kid,,I dont mean to hijack your thread, sorry bro. I could start another for it, but I know Im just being lazy,, the info is in here somewhere..

Examine the jets in your carbs under magnification (I use a jewelers loop)  I've seen a lot of weird sizes and screwed up jets . Many carbs that I rebuild , I toss the jets and replace them. in one instance I had to replace a body , as the low speed jet was badly damaged and non removable.

no worries funk I dont mind. As for fuel pump rod, i have the early 82 carbs so i have no rod to adjust.

Fuel pump puts fuel into the bowls, accelerator pump puts fuel down the venturis  8)

ahhh..maybe the acc pump (I sit corrected, thank you) on mine isnt adjustable either.. I didnt notice it last time they were in hand. Like I said before, Im gonna try to get the parts so I dont get stuck,,, Im trying to figure out which are the right parts!!

early 82's have an adjustable fuel pump rod. you disconnect it at the carb linkage and turn it out (or in)
if you have no rod....  :P

ok now i am confabulated. I have a non adjustable linkage going from the Accelerator pump to the throttle shaft. As for the fuel pump, mine has no hard connection to anything save for the 2 mounting screws. everything else is the 4 hoses (fuel in, fuel out, vacc line to the front carb boot, and a small hose that I haven't identified yet.)

What pump DO i have?

So really, whats the point of having the fuel pump? Do the carbs use THAT much fuel it has to be pulled in from the tank, or?
Just thinking, its already set up for gravity feed, whats up with the fuel pump too?
