I know that Tiger is running one from an 82 or 83 Virago.  Also read here that the honda Shadow will fit aswell, but the wiring may need to be modified or just the colours don't match.
Keep it upright and she'll always be happy!

Seems like in the last 24 month(probably less) someone put together and posted a list of bikes whose stators either use the same one a the V or will swap into the V.  A search on "Stator" will turn up a ton of stuff to look through, but it should be in there.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming HOOOOYA lets go again baby !!!!!!

'82 Vision, Pearl Orange finish, lots of up-grades!!!

No question about it.  Tiger is The Man.

Most excellent piece of info! Note that all the Yamaha models are post '83 so they should have the improved insulation. I would not recommend anything from any '83 model of anything though.

The thing that strikes me about the list of bikes that use the same stator is that I haven't heard of any of them having problems with stators burning up. What is it about Visions that cause the problem? Are all these stators made by the same company to the same spec. or do some have better insulation, etc?

Yamaha upgraded the temperature rating of the later stators mostly due to problems with the Venture. Expensive bike, unhappy owners who could easily switch to Goldwings. Something else I noticed is the TDM850. I happen to own one and it will get hot in a heartbeat if I get in stop and go traffic. No stator problem with that bike.

Art, actually several of the bike listed have been stator eaters. I've been  on the Suzuki VX800 forum and its not an unknown problem there either.
The design shared with almost all bike's, is pretty unsophisticated at best, but its cheap and compact.
