At 57,000 miles on my bike my front carb linkage had come lose from shaft. It was causing some play to be taken up on early throttle application. Lucky for me I had a spare carb to draw from. Upon fixing that I found that the linkage for the flapper, in the top of the air box was almost worn in two! My only quick fix, since I have no spare air box, was to remove the flapper throat entirely. It is now breathing thru just the hole in the box, no inside snorkell. I thought I would make for major flat spot in throttle application, but to my pleasant surprise, it runs ok. Maybe I lost at little mid-range tourque, but I'll live with it for now.
