I've been getting about 155 to 160 miles before I hit reserve :-X is that about average? I noticed 200 miles on the road test article, most of my riding is a mix of city and country, and I'm a throttle roller not a whacker and since I think this is the only one of these in town I have no locals to compare to :-[

San Francisco driving, (lots of stop and go) for 7 miles each way and I get 40 mpg.  Which means I do about 130 miles before I hit reserve (at least thats when I fill it up.)

Great, thank you at least mine must be normal then,I believe you have E-10 pushed on you in Cali, like we do here in Ore so our fuels are equal :'(

Back roads to work doing 45-50mph, I get 170-175
before it hits reserve.

Maybe has something to do with clean carbs?

On this latest trip, 2100 miles, and primarily highway speeds and rpms i got anywhere from 31 to 37 mpg. I think i could change my plugs at this point ;)

That's pretty consistent with me if I'm not doing the old stop and go traffic...

The worst I get is 18K per litre (42 miles per gal or thereabouts when converted to US measures I think).

By myself I tend to ride in the 100 - 140kph, (60 - 87mph), range on our open roads, lots of corners and throttle action and using 95 octane, and a touch more aggressively when I am out riding with the Ducati boys and showing them what a real bike can do..... ahem  ;D  8)

If I ride in cruise mode I can expect between 2 and 3k's more per litre.

If I don't add the acetone to the fuel, (.75ml to 1.5ml per litre), my fuel economy drops by an average of 2.5k per litre irrespective of the grade of fuel I use or ride style. This has been consistent over the last 20000k or so since I started using the acetone.

Kid Jedi

43 mpg stop and go, 50 mpg back roads up, and down the coast, ~57 with Jade on the back taking it easy.

Mine gets 43MPG on average, calculated on about 90% of all fill-ups since I bought the V back in '84, encompassing about 16,000 miles.  I've seen as low as 30MPG (when doing lots of carb adjustment / synch) and as high as 48MPG (mostly fast highway cruising).  Almost every tank comes out to 43, though.  My riding is nearly all a few miles of in town stuff to get to the mountain / canyon roads I ride.  I don't commute on it. (work from home  ;D )

The 83 carbs seem to get a little better economy than the 82s.  Noticeable, but not a great difference.  Inane - you need to check over your carbs / vacuum lines / plugs - something is not right, getting that low MPG over that many miles.  You should be easily getting an additional 10MPG on the highway - if not more.

If you have an accident on a motorcycle, it's always your fault. Tough call, but it has to be that way. You're in the right, and dead -on a bike. The principle is not to have any accident. If you're involved in an an accident, it's because you did not anticipate. Then, by default, you failed.

My best was in OR , on I 5 at 65 mph, it was 49. 89 mpg. I checked it returning from Phoenix 2 years ago and it was 38 mpg running as much as 90 mph. I expect 65 mpg is possible at 50 mph.

Hi,
I got interested in fuel economy when the price of gasoline went past $3/gal. I modified my driving to reduce speed slightly, maintain momentum and avoid braking and it has paid off with raising my car average fuel economy from an EPA rating of 19 mpg to 28 mpg. I started keeping driving logs of all fillups on fuel economy forums I joined ( www.gassavers.org, www.ecomodders.com) for my vehicles including the Vision. Below are my results for the past 6 months

As you can see, I can usually get 47 to 53 mpg per tankfill with a lifetime best tank of 63 mpg. I usually get about 200 miles per tank. If you are interested in increasing fuel economy, try using moderate acceleration using the low-end torque of the V and shift up at around 3500-4000 rpm, and up the tire pressure. Visions can be reasonably fuel efficient if driven for that purpose.

YellowJacket!

I usually get close to 200 miles per tank before reserve.  There are sometimes though that I'll go less than 150 - usually when the gremlins are a bit thirsty.  On average, I have calculated between 40 and 50 mpg over time.  Actually did quite well on my last group ride and got very good mileage when Lucky and I rode Cherohala and the Dragon.

Just remember to be careful using fuel saving techniques if you are in traffic! Moderate acceleration and early slowdown for traffic lights can get you run over if you are on a bike. I do it with my truck here in Orlando but(if I had the guts to ride my Vision here, and I don't) I would never try it with a bike.

I get a little over 200 kilometers(around 120 miles).I think my floats are screwed because it runs rich.Smells that way anyway.I have never hit reserve yet so I really don't know the exact total.

GT @ oh.

I do get better milage with premium.... though I rarely get it.  usually 2 aboard in town mostly I get 120-130 per tank but I only put in 3gal ....afraid of the overflows......I've never been very good at riding for milage though I am starting to try......with gas prices being so high.

When your choice of vehicles are an F250 (with the gas 460ci V-8) or the Vision, you don't mind getting 'only' 43MPG on the V!
