A puff of air from around the water pump

Well, i think i appeased the electrical gremlin, and possibly found something else.

I feel a puff of hot air coming out of the hole shown with the red arrow.  It seems to be in sync with the motor ( i.e it is not constant )
The hole does not seem to be threaded, and it is quite deep ( i poked at it with a needle thing ).
This is on the right (TCI) side of the bike, up front, near the large radiator hoses.

Is this normal? or something i should worry about?

Thanks

That's the water pump weap hole.  The puff you feel is probably steam.  Haynes says that when coolent comes out of there it's time to replace the water pump seal, sooner better than later.  My '83s been putting a little steam out of there for a while, but no coolent.  What to do? Anybody?
