got a 82 and it has no spark

so I just opened up the left side crankcase cover, the stator and wires look fine.
put a new gasket in and put new spark plugs in and my dad took the liberty of putting new brushes in my starter that had a bad oil seal...
so I have to open that up again and put a new seal in.  regardless--I've done practically everything and I still have no spark but I haven't put a new TCI box in!  hmmmm
