Just looked at my '83 with the thought about where to relocate the RR to, if I ever chose to do so.  To me, the most obvious and absolutley best spot is in the area just above and a little inside the left muffle mounting/foot peg bolt.  Fabricate a simple "T" or straight mounting bracket/adapter to put the RR on and then use the foot peg bolt.  The stock bolt should work with no problems at all.  If the RR you're moving has its' stock length wires, they may very well be long enough to hook up to the wiring harness and the stator without extention.  Just use two or three black plastic zip ties for wire location control and the whole installation would look almost factory.

For appearance sake, I would mount RR with the fins facing inward and paint the mounting bracket and the RR unit semi gloss black.  I would then finish the whole thing off with a flaming stator decal.  Cheers.
