I am sure there is a wealth of info on the finer art of YICS removal, as I know there is great info on refurbishing them. Any body have any opinions on the specifics???

According to Jason you can give the things  a whack, on the corner and thay will open right up.  I can't make it work so I used a friends  band saw  and cut the seam.  Then put it on a sheet of 180 grit wet or dry sand paper and  using a figure 8 motion surface both halves untill they are smooth. Next make a gasket  , apply  a sealer like Copper Coat  or Yama bond # 4   and reassemble . reinstall with new hoses and your ready to go!

2 more things that help: hose clamps & some spring over the hose will keep it from kinking.

As to throwing them away, there are two schools of thought on that . its easy enough to take two  pieces of fuel line and stuff a ball bearing  in each and put it on each of the YIKS nipples and  see for your self .

An inexpensive Japanese flush cut saw (mine cost $5) will slice through the YICS in seconds, will take a smaller bite out of the material than a bandsaw, and will make a nice flush cut.  Just clamp the YICS down and cut along the seam.

Flush cut saw is a thin saw designed to make flush cuts.  A picture is at the following web site:

Just did a quick web  search so this surely isn't the cheapest source to buy one.

Actually the thickness of the band saw blade is OK The cut approximates the thickness of the gasket  you will be adding.
