Just purchased a 1982 Yamaha Vision 550 with only 15,000 original miles on it.  The tachometer does not work.  Is there a fix for this problem?  Also, what spark plugs should I put in?  I changed them to the DEA8?  But there was DREA8 in it??  (not sure if I have the lettering on the plugs right, just going off the top of my head what I remember)  Thanks for any help!

FM calls for D8EA (NGK) or X24ES-U (Nippon Denso).
The Tach seems to be regulated by the TCI unit electronically.

It depends which model XZ you have and whether they fitted resistor caps or not. You need to have resistor caps or resistor plugs.  Not both, not neither.

Past owners may have fitted a non stock cap - to be sure measure resistance with a multimeter.
From factory...
DR8ES for 11U, 11V, 28W, some 16R
D8EA for 14X, some 16R, 11J, 11K

a) It's broken, you need a new one
b) the wires going to it are broken, you need to fix them

Re-Vision

Take it apart and look for obvious problems (poor connections, broken wires, etc.).     BDC

Caps are correct.  They must have just taken the caps off the resister plugs.  I have the D8EA in now.
