I learned something new about Visions recently. This is probably something the more experienced Visionaries are aware of so maybe they can help clarify.

There are 2 different left handlebar switches for the (North American) Vision. It looks to be one for bikes equipped from the factory with the frame mounted fairing and another switch for all other models. There is a lead coming off that switch that plugs into the headlight on the latter. The former has an end that will only mate with it's auxiliary harness that carries power to the headlight and turn signals.

Correspondingly, there is a difference in the auxiliary harness end. One is supplied with the parts to retro-fit an '83 fairing. It's end corresponds to the headlight plug. The factory equipped fairing bikes have a harness with an end that will only fit the special plug on it's left handlebar switch.
