The stuff that surprises you.
« on: July 17, 2017, 07:49:56 AM »
I've had my XZ550 for about 5 years now. The other day I was messing with my XZ400 spares machine and took the ignition switch off which had been hanging loose. I tested it with the key and behold, a magic little spigot popped out the side. It had a steering lock.!

Back to the XZ550 and a close inspection. It too has a steering lock! Peering closely at the ignition switch I can just make out the remains of markings of the steering lock position for the key.  30 minutes of gentle persuasion plus some WD40, I am now the proud owner of a bike that can't be stolen by all those jealous Harley riders.....

Its a good feeling being the owner of a bike that keeps on giving.

You can get an owner's manual  here:

The steering lock feature is covered on page 6.

On 16R an 11U models at least, if you lock and then do an additional click left then your parking lights will turn on and flatten your battery.

Ouch, thanks for the warning. That is a trap for unwary. More surprises.

I just checked my bike. I am happy to say that my park light is blown - and it certainly wont be replaced.
