I have a red 1982 Vision XZ550 for sale, 7075 miles.

I bought this about a year ago. I remember back in 1983 my brother was all excited about this bike, probably because they were selling them for about half the original $3600 list price. I remember we went to test drive one at the dealer. My brother was 18 and had a motorcycle license, I was 17 and did not. The dealer asked for my brothers license, he showed it to him and took a test ride, when he got back, I grabbed the bike from him and took a ride. When I got back the dealer said, you don't have a license do you? I said no.

I was not really impressed with it at the time. It looked strange compared to every other bike, The high tank with a relatively square shape, the V engine with no fins, the radiator, the forks with the wheel that trailed, to me they looked like they were put on backwards.
A few years later I bought a 2 year old 1982 Yamaha Maxim 750 as my first real bike, which was a more traditional looking bike.

Many years later (last year) I saw one that had been sitting a while, so I bought it to play around with.

Since then I have repaired all the common issues I read about on this forum. It had a number of them.

1. rebuilt the starter and replaced the seal with the style with the spring, and replaced the o-ring seal. (the starter was full of oil)
2. cleaned the rust out of the gas tank. Fortunately the tank was good, no leaks.
3. Replaced the petcock.
4. Replaced the front fork seals, they were leaking and the front brake pads were greasy.
5. flushed the front brake, replaced the master cylinder, hose and brake pads.
6. Disconnected the yellow tach wire (rev limiter which can fail) this one was not causing any issues but I disconnected it just in case.
7. Rebuilt the carbs, new gaskets, replaced the accelerator pump diaphragm, replaced the small jets. Synced the carbs.
8. compression test shows both cylinders with equal compression, can't remember the number but it was very good.
9. disconnected the side stand switch. It was intermittent and would kill the engine when the bike was put in gear. This is a simple fix, Just unplug it where it plugs in behind the ignition module.
10. New Battery
11. verified the charging system is working properly and all the lights and gauges work.
12. locktited, tightened and peaned the ends of the 3 starter clutch bolts that come loose and sound like a rod knock. The bolts were loose enough to sound bad at idle, bit not loose enough to cause any damage.
13. shined the chrome, which is in great shape
14. removed the flaking clear coat from the front forks and polished the forks, same with some other aluminum parts.
15. Changed engine oil.

probably a few other thing that I do not remember as well.

So now it starts right up, runs good, everything works as it should except the rev limiter is disconnected and so is the side stand switch.

A good way to test if the idle jets are clean and if the valves are not burnt or leaking is to ride with the bike warmed up & idling in high gear, so about 1200 RPM in 5th gear. If you can gradually speed up from this without back firing, your valves are good and your carb is clean. This bike passed that test.

The tires have tread but are older

I rode it around some, put a few miles on it. I have 6 other bikes in the garage, and a wife who thinks I do not need any, so time to pass it on to someone else to enjoy. I understand this bike has quite a following.

Clear Illinois title.
